T2 : Butterflies : 2NV : 12"
After the number 2 smash hit ‘Heartbroken’ selling over 250’000 copies producer/artist extraordinaire T2 is back with his second single ‘Butterflies’. Despite being held off the top spot by the almighty force that is Pop Idol (Leona Lewis ‘Bleeding Heart’), the Leeds producer’s debut single went Silver holding the number 2 position for 3 weeks and staying in the top ten for a total of 6 weeks. While the self explanatory ‘Heartbroken’ sums up the end of a relationship - ‘Butterflies’ leans towards the more positive spectrum of relationships.  ‘I’m feeling the heavy chemistry between me and you. It’s plain to see baby that I’m feeling you. Cupid shot me point blank, there’s nothing I can do. Cargo edition goes on search. Together with Kostas Tassopoulos aka Ekkohaus a magic loop attracts notice, which gains an ecstatic momentum in its repetitive monotony. The native-born Greek is an international DJ and lives for a fairly long time in Berlin, where he is successfully hosting the party series “strictly no dancing” at “Club der Republik". As a producer Ekkohaus stands out especially due to his reduced tracks between house and minimal techno, which approaches this search for the magic moment with a gentle selected and densely arranged sound. The a-side with the track “Amoeba” balances between a hypnotic, very demanding rhythmic and a relaxed casualness, which manifests itself in the run of the track. Andreas Wiegand aka Andomat 3000 belongs after all the flip-side. The young producer may be one of the big newcomers of the year 2008. Two remixes and for this reason two more facets of “Amoeba” he administers to this EP. His ad-hoc-remix (B1) bundles the rhythmic energy of the original towards an exhilarant clear and straight techno track. The second Andomat 3000-version is more complex and deeper rooted in the house context. The sounds buzz easily around and care for an interesting interpretation of the outstanding Ekkohaus-moments.

Whilst searching for Candles I thought to myself… this means something… So the demo sat in the player lying dormant for months never being played. Then one morning the CD started play by it’s self. Amazed by what was coming out of the speakers we immediately tried to reach the mysterious Ido Oshkopun. With a mystical nature Ido’s musical touch wields both finesse and raw force displayed perfectly on side A with Rangun. A combination of Roland 808 and CR-78 lay the percussive carpet for a lush ménage of melodic bone like percussion, classic strings and haunting Bermese vocals. Most definitely one of the most original tracks we’ve heard in some time. On the flip with Bpyinmana Oshkopun follows up with a frenzy of classic drums a la CR-78 thrown into a cocktail of effects and edits that fizz over into a perfect drum dub. A tracky workout perfect for the most adventurous of djs. Fans of Ethno techno, traditional Bermese vocals, classic Roland drums and ultra funky edits will welcome this EP like sunshine on a rainy day. However, let´s not focus on the Broombeck mystery any longer and a bit more on his wicked tune The Clapper instead, which is nothing but a percussive peaktime technomonster that stomps lippediclapahead, totally focused and merciless, while using hammering wooden drums to set dancefloors on fire and to let ravers crack up until they call for a rewind. Once more the Possum is further adorned by two remixes, contributed by finland based Roberto Rodriguez (a born-and-bred scandinavian, yet with spanish roots) in cooperation with „Frozen North“ labelboss Jussi-Pekka, as well as the Opossum head honcho itself. Fabrice Lig, the prince of everything electronic, is back after his very acclaimed X-Slaves. He delivers the goods once again, starting off here with chapter one in a Purple Raw trilogy. First up is The Track, based around a jerky syncopated rhythm and a very dry kick, which remains light all the way. As usual, Lig’s arrangements evolve progressively before they wipe us away with their screeching pads and synthetic melodies. A great mixture of minimal techno and Detroit nostalgia. No doubt, the more efficient track produced by Fabrice Lig and hammered by Dixon, Ame, Alex Attias, Quarion… Much more aggressive, Bump Bump is built around fat analogue sounds, or acid noises if you prefer which seem to emulate screaming animals. One is easily carried away by an animalistic groove that keeps on building from the beginning till the end. It all ends with the very funky The Riff Pourpre, a perfect crossover between Metro Area and Parliament. The retro sounds sit nicely on a big fat beat, the kind which Lig excels in.
