A classic bit of space
disco from the French scene of the 70s -- four long tracks that are all pretty
darn moogy, and pretty darn great! The work here would fit nicely with some of
the best keyboard-heavy club of the US scene at the time -- not exactly like
some of the work on P&P, or the grooves of El Coco over at AVI -- but not
that dissimilar either, and often put together with a spare, simple approach
that's a welcome contrast from overblown disco of the time! Most numbers build
up from a funky bassline and beats -- adding in the keyboards with great
relish, and really letting them jam and get crazy over the top. There's
certainly a bit of cosmic fusion going on here too -- and titles include
"Monkey Star", "Meteor One", "Stone Roller", and
"All The Bass".

After 7 years of intensive
producing HEADMAN hardly needs any introduction! Always ahead of his time ROBI
INSINNA was a pioneer of the punk-funk / rave disco movement with his mates of
DFA and PLAYGROUP a few years ago when releasing his first album 'It Rough' on
Gomma Records. Since then he developed into one of the world's hottest remixer
who is always two steps ahead of the current music fashions. HEADMAN's third
album "Catch Me" again shows the new developments in the HEADMAN sound.
He fused his trademark Punk Disco with new Indie influences and always hard
kickin electro beats. "Catch Me" includes the 2 hit-singles
"Running Into Time" and "Catch Me if U Can" which already
got the props of great DJs everywhere. "Catch Me If U Can" also
appeared on the Kitsuné Boom Box compilation. The album also highlights the
voice of JEREMY KERR of legendary band A CERTAIN RATIO on
"Dreampieces" and of ANTON SPIVAC, who also lent his voice for
HEADMAN's "Moisture", on the track "Come On". The whole
album brings a new breath of life in the world of Pop and dance music, breaking
some barriers, mixing up indie vibes with an electro attitude and with a little
bit of Bowie and Eno in it, too… as it was completely produced in Berlin
legendary HANSA Studios where artists such as Bowie or Iggy Pop got their
legendary 70ies sound from.

time for a change also in this genre. We think that people like The Mountain

combines René's detailed studio knowledge and expert sound values, with a raw

the funked out wobbles of the percussion at the centre of the track. This is

the follow up "Love on the Street" by Hausmann C. The production is
the first official collaboration between him and his labelmate Paulo Olarte who
delivered romantic inspired lyrics for the track! Hausmann's primary deephouse
track builded the simple, beautiful blueprint for the Rmx done by Nils Nürnberg
and Chris Gruber. Two very talented young guys and fresh faces in the scene!
The result of their very special soundesign is a fantastic mix of odlshool
atmosphere with todays attitude of house. They morphed the idea of the original

who wait and after nearly two years we've been rewarded for our patience with 3
outstanding new tracks full of heart, energy and insight from Ed Davenport. Ed
has been an integral part of the Gumption set up from the beginning so it seems
only natural to begin our second chapter with him at the controls. Anyone who's
familiar wth Ed's previous releases on Gumption, Liebe Detail or Leftroom (as
Szenario) will already be aware of his unique storytelling abilities but
Tillmans Uninfluence, Apples and Quest for Kicks (digital only) herald a new
era in his musical evolution. Tillmans Uninfluence is probably the most immediate
of the tracks on offer here, effortlessly combining a driving tech house groove
with traditional cuban/latin flavours. The intricate percussion parts, warm
subsonic bassline and hypnotic chanting pull the dancer irresistabley towards
the breakdown which is a real celebration in itself, adding nothing but
positive vibes to the proceedings. A true dancefoor burner in the making. Ed
utilises a different approach on Apples but to similar effect. Trainspotters
may recognise the source of this sprawling epic but nothing can prepare you for
the tripped out pyrotechnics that follow as he once again strikes the perfect
balance between style and content, originality and creativity. Complete with
deranged cowbell loops, dubstep influenced bassline and cavernous breakdown
it's time to break out the smoke machine and surrender yourself to this
whirling epiphany of sound.

producers around… First up this year is Berlin-based Jaxson. Part of the hotly
tipped circle of upcoming producer/DJs that includes DJ Emerson, Dave Shokh and
Sven Brede (based around the Kiddaz.fm / Playmate label axis), his sound is
bright, taut, spacey, and brimming with funky syncopation and refined
dancefloor energy. 'Shit Happens' works a breezy bass groove with the odd disco
flutter. Featuring a sweet breakdown and a wriggling, writhing percussion
section. 'Brunchpunch' is a dubbier, moodier affair, with stripped back drum
clips providing a subtle foil for echo-drenched stabs and a deep, burbling
bline. Next up is a brand new edit of Jaxson's acclaimed 'Smokemachine', which

another fantastic solo EP on Poker Flat. Analogue synths and punchy beats merge
with warm piano stabs and cutting-edge electronic trickery, ensuring the lead
track, ‚Nomads,' carries Clé's instantly recognisable sound. A raw, urgent
bassline announces itself bravely in the opening bars before allowing the
ever-so-slightly-tongue-in-cheek Eastern flavoured hook to prevail. Already
another Poker Flat future classic, its sharp percussion and plethora of spacey

They deliver the diagnosis
and the solution, those american wonderboys from Animaltek: Oleg Slepak and
Shay Raban (aka DJ Earthian) came to see what's up, analyse what went wrong and
win over the temperature drop of everday glitch production A deep entry phase
was necessary, wiping out the routine and playing with the cake like two kids
during some senior marriage. They embody the rules of the perfect hook like no
one else as every blatant sound takes the road to hymnical stardom while the
mainstream dies a terrifying death, i.e. they know where to go. Sporty
basslines with some nicely seasoned chili marinade are the cook's
recommendation, and some comforting singing comes with it without saying. But
wait for the dessert featuring a well placed kick in the stomach, just to
remind you that we're not here for cuddly edutainment but for a decent rave. Do
not forget, that downhill it's a dip of nearly 60 %, so there's no place for
added ballast weight that may slow you down while on the gravitational payroll.
Still there's no brake installed, as fun has to do with the slope you missed,
and while others got lost on their digestive stroll the Animaltek team already
squirts the champagne, cos to them heartburn is so yesteryear, you can count on
that.

Filipsson began working together in 2001 (along with Olivier Spencer of Still
Going/DFA). Together they created "a slightly overweight boy-band"
that went by the fore-boding moniker of Mr. Negative. After their first release
on Crack & Speed ('The Star Spangled Banger') they were quickly snatched up
by Fine Records and released the huge 'Better Than You' EP to massive
world-wide support. Then, after a whirlwind world tour, Mr. Negative finally
split but not until after releasing their appropriately and negatively titled
farewell EP, 'Evacuate' - followed shortly thereafter by a second, less
negatively titled, encore farewell 'More Than A Feeling'. Three years after the
tearful and gossip fueled Mr. Negative split, Holmar & Sasse have de-cided
to join forces once again. With 'Lilly Louisa', a cryptic ode to the oft overlooked
sister of a famous American house producer, Holmar & Sasse have taken the
old school dirt and flavor of the best of house music's history and mixed it
with their considerable modern pro-duction skills and up-to-date tastes. On the
A side, the original's non-stop drive taps into the hidden house music adrenal
glands to deliver a pure, unabashed banger. Driving, sexed up, non-stop sweat
inducing action. On the flip, GusGus attack the original with their warehouse
of analog machines - simulta-neously extracting the essential groove of the
track but infusing it with their own Icelandic party freak show. Minimal,
maximal or whatever you want to call it, it's a gem and one of GusGus' finest

Lee Jones returns to Aus,
following his debut release for the label in 2007 'There Comes A Time' a sublime
melodic slice of heaven, to be found floating high in many an end of year
favorites list. Essex bred Lee Jones lived in London until 2002, where he was producing and remixing as the downtempo/
nu-jazz artist Hefner. After following his heart to Berlin, he was inspired by
the music and clubs to move into a new production style and for the past 4
years he's been the creative production force behind My My whose debut album
'Songs For The Gentle' made waves across the globe. 2008 will see a number of
solo releases from Lee, he's also planning to complete his fourth Hefner album
and has begun work on a new album with Nick Höppner as My My. 'Aria' is a
striped back but purring with refined detail and melody. Lee's classic delicate
and distinctive groove rich with percussive fills is present and correct.
Beautiful strings combine with an embellished swirling pad to create a lush
palette of melody that will remain firmly lodged in your brain. With the Tiger
Stripes Remix, it's as if Lee's original has been injected with growth
hormones. The melody is intact and the vibe remains, albeit bigger, tougher and
firmly peak time. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Mikael Nordgren is Tiger Stripes,
recording under the alias since 2004, and hailing from Stockholm in Sweden. He releases on Liebe*Detail, Urbantorque,

of techno and minimal labels. We welcome him warmly with a bit different vibe
for the "Holy Grail" EP on Moodmusic. Analog is the word here, no
samples - just plain crunchy analog circuitry from his Berlin based studio in direct house-meets-techno form. The original mix
of The Holy Grail takes on a synth journey with hints of the greatest
synthesizer music period of 1972-1982 of Vangelis & co, buttered with a
warm bed of electronic beats and futuristic themes. The B-side "Vintage
Dub Mix" takes the journey one step further with a Chicago-ish bassline
chugging the track forward into a frenzy of wild keys, the melodramatic theme
and a wicked breakdown - definitely for the peakhour ! A As an added bonus we
have "Rust" - a proper house song from the talented producer, this is

club and radio hits 'Numbers' and 'Karma Car' and an all-conquering, 20-month
world tour, Booka Shade return to their roots for a dynamic, uncompromising
three-track 12" of sheer dancefloor firepower. A version of 'Planetary' appears
on Booka's forthcoming new album, The Sun & The Neon Light, but here it's
the club and dub mixes which are the centre of attention. The club mix begins
with menacing, atmospheric synth interplay before a robust, hypnotic kickdrum
and woodblock pattern propels us forward into the great unknown. When the
snares drop there's no doubting the peaktime purpose and momentum of this
groove, emphasized yet more by the low-end tweaks, crowd-hyping drum edits and
melodic refrain that comes courtesy of a stylophone - the 60s-made synthesizer
beloved of David Bowie and Kraftwerk. Three minutes in and we're gifted an
instantly addictive, quintessentially Booka Shade bass hook that draws us into
a Korg-assisted breakdown so huge it feels as if the whole dancefloor might
capsize! On the flip, the dub mix is a darker, more minimalist affair which
early on locks into a fierce, spellbinding bass and drum lattice, with
deranged, disorienting effects and drum fills peeling off it. This is serious,
seductive and mind-bending house music for the party's crazier moments. 'City
Tales' appeared in a different version on the Fabric mix CD by Booka Shade's
friends and label mates M.A.N.D.Y.. For a long time, M.A.N.D.Y.'s Patrick was
the only person who had a copy of this mix, and the Booka guys forgot about it,
until Patrick started telling them about the overwhelming dancefloor reaction
he was getting when he played it out. So here we have Booka Shade's 'neon dub'
of 'City Tales' - an uncompromising, dark but delicately arranged dancefloor
scorcher that sets juddering vocal samples to unbelievably crisp drum sounds
and devastatingly simple, heads-down bass action. With a rhythm at once utterly
rigid and perfectly elastic, 'City Tales' boasts the kind of sensuous swing

Phil Kieran is one of
those musicians who had a terrific comeback on dancefloors around the globe
last year. Having been celebrated as a promising newcomer at the beginning of
the millennium, it became rather silent around the Northern Irelander from Belfast. Not until releasing a 12" on Novamute, Phil
re-appeared in the playlists of the big DJs. "Skyhook" was in every
case, from Väth to Beyer, from Tiga to Garnier, and with his contribution to
Cocoon Compilation G "I think I'm a monster", he continued this path
of success. In between, he finished off his musical roots from the British
Indie and Industrial scene of the late 80s with his project Alloy Mental, and
started the label Flying Cabbage. Phil Kieran is back again with
"Missp" on Cocoon Recordings and continues consistently where he
stopped with his contribution to the Compilation G: groovy, dark, technoid - a
sound that, from time to time, reminds of some fog & strobo parties in the
mid-nineties. An electroid bass line and a fascinating drum roll go straight
ahead and it's still the fine sounds in between that make the music and the
rhythm. A track which is perfect for the prime time.

breakbeat element uncommon in this type of release. Very old school start up

For the second release in
their Nectar mix series, Orlando-based Agave Records have tapped Chicago DJ and
producer Johnny Fiasco to lend his name and considerable talents to selecting,
mixing, and remixing fourteen tracks of fresh and funky house music. Johnny's
better known as Juan Lopez to his moms and his Latin roots definitely peek
through in spots, as with the Mario Fabriani mix of Manuel Tur's "In The
Ghetto" or Jason Merle's "Sound Bomber." But funk is definitely
king on this project, and nowhere further out in front than the aptly-titled
"Funkyard Junk" from Sound Republic that
showcases sax licks that would make Maceo Parker proud, following nicely from
the similarly jazzy sounds of Leon Louder's "Do It Again." Johnny is
also not afraid just to let the bottom end drive the music - Eddie Leader's
"The Pit" is a straightforward 4/4 pounder that segues in Mark
Militano's "Think Of A Place" (and we have to believe the
"F" in "F Thing RMX" is none other than our man Mr Fiasco)
and then to Johnny's original track "Reflex," full of flexing synths
and some hot-blooded conga action. The album lunges for the finish with the
cool pulsations of Spettro's "Nothing Particular" and the almost
glitchy Luckystars track "Swimming Under the Ice" before closing with
a bang courtesy of a smokin' Jazzanova remix of Ian Pooley's "What's Your
Number." Save this record for when the floor is full and you want to keep
it that way - nectar is always sweeter when it's shared.
