Modeselektor’s partner in crime and he has remixed Simian Mobile Disco’s ‘It’s

Acidkids : We
Were Wild / Combat Rock : Telerock : 12"
Television Rocks is
proud to announce that no one less than AcidKids aka Daniel Dexter and Markus
Lange have joined the family. And they come up with solid Rock/Disco tunes for
all you wild boys under the huge disco ball out there! AcidKids push mightily
and do not care a straw about any traumatizing genre fanaticism.
"We were wild" smoothly combines Rock, Pop and Techno tunes and the
result is a stunning dance-floor hymn that will re-vitalise even the laziest
leg and will add this insatiable hunger for more on to the dance-floors. Heavy,
funky beats, loads of bass and sexy samples make this track irresistible.
"Combat Rock" skillfully combines the electronic aspects of music with
a healthy Rock'n'Roll attitude that – tongue-in-cheek – turns the traditional
and everlasting "1-2-3-4"-credo into action. And a rumbling,
chopped-up 4/4 beat explores the old
question: "Do you wanna dance?". A purely rhetorical question, of
course...

Cazels : Life Is
Boring (Rory Philips / Crookers Remixes) : Kitsune : 12"
Cazals release their
first full single ‘Life Is Boring’ from their brilliant upcoming album 'What Of
Our Future'.‘Life Is Boring’ features remixes all from friends of the band. One
from Ali Love who was a founding member of Cazals, and played bass, another
from Rory Phillips who Daniel and Phil know only too well after spending
practically every Monday night with him for the last number of years at Trash
(R.I.P) and finally a remix from Crookers who are Luca's favourite Italian
producer mates.‘Life Is Boring’ is a fan favourite from their live shows, for
its unrelenting syncopated off-beat drum pattern, attacking bass line, duelling
guitars, and a fantastically catchy chorus telling the tale of the singers escape
from the dullness of suburbia - Enfield Lock to be precise.‘Life Is Boring’ is
available as a limited edition 12”, and also a second 12”, 7” featuring
exclusive remixes by Crookers and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies.

funk slackness as a loose groove and wobble bassline meet up.” Hot Press “All

After last autumn’s
sublime "Glyphic" long-player, Boxcutter reverts to his given name
for a journey through his
extensive back catalogue of material. These are tracks that date from the
period 2002-2005; up to the time Barry wrote his classic first album
"Oneiric". An early interest in uk
garage is apparent in the 2-steppy breaks of "London" for instance, and minimal techno
in "LTI". Balancing Lakes, though, feels like and album and not
simply a collection of tracks. From the gorgeous blissful amen jungle of
"Loving Dub" to the jazzy horns and otherworldly melodies of
"New Orleans" this shows a man at the top of his game even before his
debut release.

Saravah Soul :
Nao Posso Te Levar A Serio / Supersossego (Instrumental) : Tru Thoughts :
7"
“Nao Posso Te Levar
A Serio” is the debut single from Saravah Soul on Tru Thoughts, and it packs a
punch from the outset. The title translates into English as “I Can’t Take You
Seriously.” The lyrics, in Portuguese, give a girl a good ticking off for
playing games which Brazilian frontman and lyricist, Otto Nascarella, quite
frankly can’t be doing with. A half-Brazilian, half-British outfit singing in
both English and Portuguese, Saravah Soul’s exciting, original sound has
exploded out of London’s cultural melting pot to create
this tasty fusion of Raw, Afro-Brazilian Funk. The hi-energy brass of the intro
to “Nao Posso Te Levar A Serio", with guitar bubbling underneath, is pure
funk. Consistently exciting percussion from Jack Yglesias underpins this track
and announces a catchy, satisfying chorus. The B side to this single is an
exclusive instrumental version of the electrifying album cut “Supersossego.”
Bringing on the sound of Rio Carnival, this is a dancefloor filler in waiting.
The track starts out as a mean dose of stripped-down funk and stealthily
evolves over the course of an exhilarating five minutes, to hit you
unexpectedly with a raucous samba batacuda bomb to which staying still is not
an option. Both tracks on this 7″ announce Saravah Soul’s arrival as
‘ones to watch’ and provide a tantalising snapshot of what to expect from this
varied and vibrant band’s forthcoming album on Tru Thoughts .

ATC022
Lerosa :
Killester EP : A Touch Of Class : 12"
Lerosa Strikes back
strongly again. Similar to his previous EP “Design” on ATC-019, Leopoldo Rosa’s
latest “Killeste rEP” offers a warm, organic vibe in its fusion of electronic
and acoustic sounds. In the new EP’s four tracks, the Dublin-based Italian
producer adopts a somewhat sparse and rough-edged style that’s dramatically different
from the sleek polish that characterizes the output of many other producers.
Deep by Design and funky at the same time, these four tracks dive into a
analogue Deep House Pool of Sound, where the emphasis in the opener “Dark
Knight” is primarily groove, specifically mid-tempo, syncopated rhythms that
Rosa imbues with Latin flavour by adding congas. He ornaments the pulse with a
rich array of sounds-handclaps, Rhodes accents,
synth spatter-and grounds it all with an ostinato synth bass figure. “Demon”
slows the pace to a slinkier BPM, all the better to soak in its seductive
atmosphere. The focus here is more the rich enveloping melodic weave that Rosa creates from jazzy Rhodes noodling and shimmering synth chords. The considerably more driving
“Contamination” is a snappy, almost spasmodic jam built from voice croaks,
ringing cymbal patterns, and the jittery punctuation of staccato piano chords
and snares. Though “Blinkerskate (Her Mix)” returns the release to a slower,
seductive zone, the closing track’s persona is now as much dub-inflected as it
is house-based: beats lurch and echoing stabs flare while acidy synth melodies
rise to the surface.

NRKLP038A
X-Press 2 :
Coast2Coast LP Part 1 : NRK : 2X12"
The Coast2Coast
series continues its journeys around the globe, this time setting down in
London to catch a ride with the X-Press 2 boys.
•For this instalment of the ‘Coast2Coast’ series, Rocky, Ashley Beedle and
Diesel have conjured up a delight, covering all bases in modern house music’s
wide musical tapestry. Featuring all styles, from deep disco to 5am dark minimal via the odd flashback to the late 80s / early
90s, X-Press 2’s Coast2Coast looks set to put fire into the bellies of all
house enthusiasts. Tracks and remixes come courtesy of artists such as Mr
Fingers, Los Hermanos, Audion, Robbie Rivera, Áme, Peace Division, Solid Groove
and many more.
•X-Press 2 first burst onto the international club scene in 1993 with the
demented sirens, typewriter-noise percussion and dancefloor pyrotechnics of
‘Muzik X-press’. The three DJs, Ashley Beedle, Rocky and Diesel, all from
unfashionable suburbs of London, had each played leading roles in the capitals
cooler, more influential club scenes. ‘Muzik X-Press’ was an instant worldwide
club hit. DJs as influential as Pete Tong and New York’s Junior Vasquez (then in his Sound Factory prime) loved
it. Clubbers around the world declared it an instant anthem. Its follow up, the
juddering, funky ‘London X-Press’ with its exhortation to “raise your hands!”
was just as monstrously successful. In 2002 they released the album ‘Muzikizum’
and the single ‘Lazy’. The album was critically acclaimed and charted at number
15 in the national charts. A massive success, ‘Lazy’ was a track that perfectly
summed up the mood of the nation. Charting at number 2, it became the biggest
airplay track of the year and won them the coveted Ivor Nevello award. “I had
contacted Beedle and co some five years ago after hearing Ballistic Brothers,
which I loved,” says vocalist David Byrne (Talking Heads), who offered them a
slot on his European tour. “I loved the contradiction of a pumping dance track
that is called ‘Lazy’”. With their dazzling six deck DJ performances that used
effects-ridden mic performances from Ashley, CD-players and basic samplers, the
band send the crowds wild; “We like a bit of a challenge and it certainly
creates something of a potent atmosphere”, says Rocky. “It’s like a jam,
really, its not rehearsed, were inspired continually by the shenanigans on the
dancefloor”.

Prime Numbers is a
new record label initiated by Trus’me. The label is set to release records from
respected producers from across the globe. Various genres will be covered,
although, house and techno will be the predominant sound including Trusme’s own
production. The PN sound is brought together through friends, affiliates and
collaborators from around the world. PN02 : Prime Numbers debut offering is a
three track 12″ E.P alongside a digital release. Linkwood - R.I.P.
Linkwood’s previous releases on Firecracker Recordings have been classed as
instant vintage. His latest offering is just that. A deep, sleazy, seductive,
4x4 soul with a moaning female vocal, dark and sweet, that just captures you.
Napihedz - Jah Bless. A collaboration between Detroit’s Pirahnahead ( Mahogani ) and Reggie Dokes ( Psychostasia
) which fuses deep house and dub reggae. An intoxicating 4x4 groove gives way to
a reggae riddim key and bass affair. Following in the vein of Rhythm and Sound
and Deep Space productions. Reggie Dokes - Black Thoughts. Psychostasia’s
enigmatic producer drops dope minimalism. There are some tracks that you hear
on a mix tape that you just have to have. This is one of them. Its fame is
drawn from the musical circles of Europe,
thanks, in part, to Theo Parrish’s influential mix CD from a few years ago.

Freerange
Recordings : Freerange 100 Part 1 : Freerange : 12"
Freerange celebrates
it’s 100th 12” release with a double vinyl (of which this is part 1) including
brand new tracks from key regular artists including Milton Jackson, Manuel Tur
and Square One.
•Milton Jackson kicks off with his devastatingly simple and effective track
entitled ‘Ghosts In My Machines’, arguably his strongest track to date and
already causing tremors from early DJ spins from the Freerange DJs. This is
what house is about– stripped back, jacking, raw, simple and rolling grooves
with hooky stabs and killer drops. Pure energy on the dancefloor and definitely
destined for big things. Milton is currently enjoying much hype as
one of the UK’s leading underground house
producers, releasing on Urbantorque and Tronicsole as well as Freerange. His
last Freerange release, ‘Cycles’, became a sizeable underground hit with
supporters including Danny Howells and Ben Watt. Square One’s ‘Twilight’ takes
things in a more late night, heads down electronic direction with disco drums
and deep atmospheric twists and turns. Moody but very funky. Freerange’s boy
wonder Manuel Tur turns in an epic beauty entitled ‘Boxed Rivers’ which sees
him drop the pace for an end of night heart wrencher, laden as it is with
soaring strings, panning arpeggiations and enveloping sub bass. Manuel Tur from
Essen, Germany has built up a large fan base from his Portamento and
Acorado releases on Freerange. He has also recorded excellent recent EPs with
production partner Dplay for Drumpoet Community and Compost Black Label. Press

Additional
production and remix by naughty, sasse & ewan at fse towers, berlin. so at
last it’s time for misericord number two and a track we’re really proud and
excited to be releasing. hot on the heels of al usher’s mighty “gnanfou
ep", mugwump deliver their finest work to date. a 107bpm club monster (for
us balearic grandads this is not a contradiction in terms) entitled
“boutade". it may be slower than the current average but it’s been one of
the biggest tracks in my sets over the past few months, and similarly for the
handful of djs lucky enough to have a copy (ivan smagghe, ata, pete herbert, dixon). an extended intro with marcato strings and timpani
builds the drama until a massive bassline drops and the dancefloor gets stupid.
on the flip myself, naughty and sasse turn in a chugging Prescription-esque dub
for good measure. at the risk of sounding over the top, it’s a record that
astonishes and rewards every time you’ve the guts / sense to change the pace a
bit and one i know i’ll still be playing this time next year. slowly, surely…

Maik Loewen :
Backcountry Camping EP : Karmarouge : 12"
Maik Loewen was
already infected by musiccalitis in early years. And there was also his
increasing fascination for beats. It did not take long till he started playing
the drums and synthesizer. With the TB 303 being one of his first instruments
he immediately became addicted to electronic sounds and became quite skilled in
using these new devices in his own productions. During his apprenticeship at
the recording studios he produced his first tracks. At the same time he started
his collaboration with Oliver Hacke and Gabriel Ananda. They supported him to
get his first record deals. Following his first releases on Tonsport ‘Arnika
EP’, Karmarouge ‘Mezcal EP’ and Trapez ‘One year one month’ and remix projects
for Walter Dahn und Jorge Gebauhr, his latest EP on Poikerflat „Even If You
Sleep“, Maik finally appears on Karmarouge: The ‘Backcountry Camping EP’. His
deep understanding for functional sounds and extremly pumping beats, combined
with the right mixture of genius and insanity, enables Mike to playfully
produce upfront club-compatible music. “I don’t like musical restrictions, what
counts is the feeling of the moment, expressed in acoustic waves". A
perfect mixture that metamorphoses the dancefloor into a seething gladiators
arena and wich become one of this genius minimal techno anthems who seems to
fly higher more and more. Not to forget the huge portion of groovy funkiness.
The three tracks on the EP nicely explore different nuances of Maik Loewen‘s
present sound.

MOBILEE034
Exercise One :
Intensity : Mobilee : 12"
The masters of the
hypnotic groove are back! Exercise One come bruising into springtime with two
raw, exuberant cuts sure to knock the sleep out of clubbers reluctantly
crawling out of hibernation. The duo—Marco Freivogel and Ingo Gansera—had a
rip-roaring year in 2007, touring their infectious, unpredictable live show on
three continents, and releasing the acclaimed single „Dark Star“ for Mobilee as
well as remixes for Tam Cooper, Philip Sherburne and even dubstep maverick
Shackleton. Now, on their fourth EP for mobilee, they bring two more tracks of
their spring-loaded wormhole funk.Tightly coiled, swathed in reverb from the
get-go, “Intensity” lives up to its name with aplomb. The patented Exercise One
rat-a-tat rapture is on full display as distorted toms ping-pong across the
spectrum. Red-hot hi-hats and handclaps lay out a lithe, housey skip. Peeling
away the clockworks, the boys gradually reveal an alternate plane of space-time
where swirls of feedback and delay tear across the surface of the track like
twisters. “Intensity” is an invitation to levitation. “Ceremony",
meanwhile, reveals a kinder, gentler side of the duo without sacrificing
anything in the impact department. Titled in homage to the Ian Curtis-penned
song of the same name, “Ceremony” has something of a split personality. It
opens with a long spool of controlled syncopations and delicate filtering that
build and build across four minutes of easy-going abandon. And then a curious
thing happens: with the hips on cruise control, the heart kicks, in with slowly
unfolding chords as undeniable as the dawn. The last four minutes of the track
play out in a delicious tension between the bump and grind of the drums and the
weightless wonder of the pads. This is no exercise, it’s the real deal: an
afterhours masterpiece that’s not afraid to be optimistic.

New 12″ single
taken from Wagon Cookin’s recent album “2 Faces". The bass heavy “Mallorca” is featured in remixes by Mood
Music head honcho Sasse and Compost’s newcomers Marbert Rocel, while Llorca
from Paris has turned “Incredible” into a club
banger. The brothers Javi and Luis aka Wagon Cookin are lucky buggers. Their
recent album “2Faces” is getting tons of props from illustrious supporters like
Osunlade, King Britt, Laurent Garnier, Rainer Trüby or Llorca. Then Christian
Prommer picked up their first single “Start To Play” and conducted a true remix
masterpiece reaping even more flatteries from Ben Watt, Jimpster, Ashley
Beadle, Markus Enochson… In summer time you can find the guys chillin on their
favourite mediterranen rock: Mallorca. They
like this place that much that they even made a song about it which turned out
to be the best kept secret from “2Faces” - a bass heavy groove monster and
deejays fave which finally sees its well deserved release on vinyl to be played
out loud in the clubs. And as this wasn’t enough reason to celebrate, Mood
Music head honcho Sasse Lindblad and French connection Ludovic Llorca (of F-Com
fame) check in to deliever top notch remixes of “Mallorca” and the B-side track
“Incredible". Last but not least Compost newcomers Marbert Rocel join the
gang to make their debut as remixers, and the result is quite impressive -
althought their version of “Mallorca” is a little bit more dancefloor
orientated than their “Speed Emotions” album material. Enjoy!

Gui Boratto
& Martin Eyerer : The Island / The Beach : Audiomatique : 12"
Two names synonymous
with melody, style, and forward thinking, Brazil‘s Gui Boratto and Germany‘s own
Martin Eyerer present two hot new productions on Audiomatique. Full of
musicality and the worldly presence of two seasoned globetrotters, this
international collaboration represents newly chartered territories, standing
tall and proud above the dense fog of the mainstream… Having arrived at the
title cut, ‚The Island,‘ Boratto & Eyerer present us with easy, jakking
beats which skip amongst a rousing synth melody, filtering carefully and
capturing the listener in hypnotic and uplifting swells of sound. Straight to
the point, its memorable hook only calms in the later moments, allowing the
solid energy of the percussive elements to have their say. This is half club
track, half open-air magic-moment! On the B side of this two part journey we
witness the softer synth theme of ‚The
Beach‘, perhaps derived from classical
piano roots, which takes the role of storyteller. A beautiful contrast occurs
between the padded notation of the central melodies and the crisp crunch of the
claps and kicks which underpin the track. Perhaps intended for an impromptu
late night beach soirée, be it in Brazil, Germany or afar, this melancholic piece of
electronics is another hybrid of club functionality and natural musical
sentiments. This unmissable package, the first collaboration between two highly
acclaimed producers, confirms that the multi-national culture holds great
promise for the future of cutting edge music.

Bruno Pronsato :
Why Can't We Be Like Us : Hello Repeat Records : 2X12"
„If archetypal rock
music claims „Satisfaction” then the rhythmachine requieres emotion” wrote
Kodwo Eshun in his 1998 book „More Brilliant Than The Sun: Adventures in Sonic
Fiction.” Today, almost ten years later, his theory is still correct, and it
shows that his idea is explosive when the rhythmachine is programmed against
the common sense. Steven Ford aka Bruno Pronsato knows all of this, because he
knows rock music and its creative dead end street. He knows because he played
in several rock bands in his hometown of Seattle, trying time and again to play the same songs, and the same rhythms in
new ways. But that’s a long time ago. Now, more than five years later, he
generates music via synthezisers and computers - emotional rhythms far beyond
any kind of cliché. His new longplayer „Why can’t we be like us” embodies his
old passion for playing the drums as well as his addiction to ones and zeros.
Instead of creating streamlined minimal, he has more of an abstract sound on
his mind - one that lives on a dark, organic and percussive note. Nothing
really new, he has always been unpredictable and funky with an organic twist
between the beats. His tracks often rely on devious turns, flickering sounds,
warm basslines and some free riding vocals. They still do, but more importantly
now, they are more musical, more space filling and above all, much more
percussive. His intention here is to provide you with a long player - not a
compilation of danceable clubtracks. He wants to tell a story and he does it
with nine long, grooving compositions that are full of rhythms that twist
around bubbling sounds that seem to launch out of his very own inner space:
sometimes a piano melody is dancing in space, then an undefinable vibrancy
chirps out of the background, and in the next moment some unheared buzzing
sighs in time and space. The only real red threat you can feel deeply is a
soulful climax towards the last track „Why Can’t We Be Like Us”. A story-arc
that makes his album l
