DCOM04CD
V/A [Kryptic Minds & Leon Switch]: Two Swords : Defcom : CD
The irrepressible UK duo that have redefined modern, intelligent drum & bass are back with a brand new, unique mix CD album that is set to cast a very long shadow over every other rival release waiting nervously on the shelves. This is ‘Two Swords’ a simply unanswerable blend of the very latest material from Defcom Records and Osiris Music UK, including a priceless volley of never-to-be-released exclusives, the pick of both labels releases from 07/08 both those currently circulating and those waiting agonizingly to drop and featuring the brightest jewels from 2007’s album of the year ‘Lost All Faith’. Blending might with majesty, menace with grace just like the traditional Japanese Katana blades that adorn its stunning lo-fi cover this is drum & bass reared up to its fullest height: a brooding cinematic stew of rolling, neurofunked techstep, haunting orchestral verve and deep, glitching, dubstepped echoes, expertly mixed by two of dance music’s most respected artists. In 75 breathtaking minutes and 23 effortlessly trailblazing tracks, ‘Two Swords’ displays not only the depth and accomplishment of Kryptic Minds and Leon Switch~Rs own finest compositions, but also introduces a new generation of handpicked producers from around the world under the Defcom/Osiris banner.

ADVR031
Atlantic Connections : Remeber Tulum/Water : ADVANCED : 12"
Slick guitar licks, rolling breakbeats and a warming bassline. Flipping over and the equally as classy ‘Water’ goes for a stepping drum beat with light percussive touches and an effortless vocal that slides in and out of the mix while the bass notes soothe your soul as you dance your ass off. Classic AC business.

BBB01
Brookes Brothers : The Light/Rainman : BBB : 12"
The Light has been receiving much hype of late and its pop-tastic vocal snippets and rib snapping bass show you why instantly. On the flip is ‘Rainman’ a track that was given away on DOA but proved too popular for an mp3 only release. Big like star systems.

BEATUP003
Unknown : Icky Thump (Vocal & Dub Mix) : BEAT UP : 12"
First up we have a naughty vocal remix which features The White Stripes at their very best rolling over a heavy D&B backbone that works perfectly for any DJ with enough balls to pull it out of the box. While for those of a more nervous disposition, there’s an instrumental version on the flip which should give you all the thrill and none of the fuss.

CHANEL9626
V/A : Fist Of Fury EP : Function : 12"
Following the release of his awesome ’Phoenix Rising’ LP at the end of 2007, Digital kick-starts the new year with the ’Fist Of Fury’ EP. Digital opens with ’Too Late’, a great slice of timeless drum and bass, packed with vintage beats, eerie strings and a nasty Reese bassline. For the B side, up and coming UK producer Outrage teams up with Finland’s finest Resound for the unsettling, dubby ’Cryonize’. Welsh producer Drum Cypha’s ’In Extremix’ is next, packed with potent old school sounds. For the last track, Digital teams up with French producer Lutin - already heavily featured on Pheonix Rising - and Generic from Canada for ’Phantasy’, a malevolent series of synth stabs over some deep beats. Awesomely produced, packed with old school vibes made even more powerful via 21st century production trickery, this ’Fist Of Fury’ hits the spot with style and power and has already enjoyed heavy support from Fabio, Bailey and more. Tracklist: A. TOO LATE - DIGITAL B. CRYONIZE - OUTRAGE & RESOUND C. IN EXTREMIS - DRUM CYPHA D. PHANTASY - DIGITAL, LUTIN & GENERIC

FOKUZLTD017
Nphonix vs Morebeat & Gabanna : Ideo Gram / Goodnight : Fokuz : 12"
Nphonix return's with a proper driving tune after his previous very success FokuzLTD release. This new one reminds us of the early BC days.. Tight beats, with luscious deep strings, technoid bleeps and sounds, that rollout in a big basic B line driven roller. Very minimalist, but one of his better tune... On the Flipside we see the Up&coming Morebeat teaming up with Gabanna. Morebeat is slowly establishing them selves with some very successful releases on Citrus Recordings. This one, as to be expected, is deeper and more on a musical tip while keeping it very techy. Hard beats, Rinsed out basslines, Trancy spaced out sounds along some melodic ingredients.. Keep an eye our for these boyz from the Czech republic.

Deep & Shaffie : Deeper/Prepare : FREQUENCY : 12"
Andy C & Red One have gone out on a limb with this the latest release on their Frequency imprint, sister to the scene leading Ram Records. Firstly they have signed two very new artists in the way of Deep & Shafie, but fortune favours the brave and what they’ve done here is push forward a 12” with a bucket full of class.

Lynx (feat Nu:Tone : East To West / Whistelstop : Nu Records : 12"
Limited promo copies. Lynx takes things in a slightly different direction with this excursion forthcoming on Brand:Nu. 'Whistlestop' is a joyous homage to the mid-nineties jump up reminiscent of early DJ Krust & Full Cycle flavas. Rave chords, stuttering old skool breaks and a super rolling b-line seal the deal. Nu:Tone joins him on 'East To West', a lovely atmospheric trip into the clouds.

PRSPCT005
Harm (Cooh & Diode) / Cooh  : Head Stomp / Be Blast : PRSPCT : 12"
Cooh is one of the fastest rising multitalented stars in drum & bass at the moment. Hot on the heels of his releases on Position Chrome and Offkey we present two new Bulgarian dancefloor stormers on PRSPCT. Head Stomp on the a-side sees Cooh and Diode (collaborating as HARM) deliver a heavy roller with an oldschool stepping feel and techno influences. Be Blast on the flip is a solo track by Cooh. This track really drives it home with its tear-out first half and finishes off nicely when it switches into a glitchy roller vibe for the second half which makes it ideal for mixing. Both tracks are heavily recommended! Support comes from: The Panacea, Evol Intent, Raiden, Limewax, Audio, Counterstrike, The Sect and more...

ACRESB001
Sarantis : Meditate / Vendetta : Blackacre SB : 12"
Kicking off Black Acre's all new vehicle for haunted Dancehall and meditive bass-weight we have Athens born, Leeds resident, Sarantis. This genre bending producer has swiftly become a producer of high pedigree established via collabos with Warrior Queen and consistent releases via the highly regarded Senseless. Meditate - This smoked out skankers anthem features rootical vocal snippets contrasting with glitchy digital anomalies that punctuate the track. Neck snapping snares betray Sarantis’ firm foundations in both dancehall and grime combining with the slinky line in bass work to give Meditate that next type-a- motion to move a dance. Vendetta – A storm of twisted and metallic synths that cling even harder to Sarantis’ Grime roots, taking proceedings into a darker and more intimidating place. Scattershot 808 claps & crashes are driven by a tidal wave of crunchy mids and bowel quaking low-end wobble. Robotic and funky. Support From : N-Type, Plastician, Joe Nice, Oris Jay, RSD, Headhunter, Exodus.

EAR006
Moldy ft Juakali : Glory : Earwax : 12"
‘Earwax looks West once again for its new release... Not to the West Country as per usual, but much further a field - across the Atlantic to the Big Apple, New York City! In an exclusive collaboration featuring Moldy on the buttons and the ever-versatile Dub War host Juakali on lyrical duties, ‘Glory’ smashes boundaries between dubstep, dancehall, jungle, techno and many other genres around and between. This really is just good music for people with good ears! ‘Glory’ opens with a dramatic intro of sampled, filtered horns – dug from the crates old school style – then, all of a sudden… the ambush! In comes a simple but rolling half step rhythm, soon charged with pounding subs. Juakali’s vocals flow over in perfect unison with the beats – he’s really on form here! As the melody builds, layered with subtle horn cuts, Juakali’s energetic lyrical flow delivers a conscious message that will fire up a dance, be it dubstep, dancehall, roots or whatever… Check! Don’t like vocals? Wanna run your own acappella over the rhythm? Just flip over for ‘Glory Dub’ – the instrumental version… Seen? CLDUB006
Darkstar : Round Ours / Maven / Dunhill Riddem : Clandestine Cultivations : 12"
For the sixth instalment of the Clandestine imprint we bring you 3 tracks from one of the most hotly tipped new production outfits in dubstep, Darkstar. Consisting of two producers from the north of England, Darkstar first started circulating their tracks at the beginning of last year and very quickly carved out a niche for themselves creating musical, innovative beats and incorporating developed song structures in a market suddenly flooded with formulaic club bangers. These tracks showcase the raw, soulful side to the Darkstar sound and are equally as potent for home listening as they are on a big system. Round Ours is possibly their most emotive work to date. This track takes a number of dubstep and dub motifs (sino dub melodies on bleeping synths, warm round bass over solid half step drums and dramatic organ sections) and gives them the unique Darkstar twist through a progressive song structure that introduces a dizzying array of disparate elements then breaks itself down to nearly nothing before swelling, combining and resolving in the final section with an assured musical confidence. The track creates a succession of emotions, at once uplifting and dark with a distinctly northern melancholy. Maven has a similarly emotive objective, but with the twist lying in the unusual cadence of the melody rather than the structure. Reminiscent of Cyrus Random Trio’s earlier output, it manages to be at once unsettling yet warm and soulful, with more bass than you can shake a ribcage at. Dunhill Riddim takes on a 2 step formula with a similarly unconventional approach. Based around a solid looped groove of dusty beats and bass, the track is propelled along by subtle builds in melody and atmosphere, achieving a feel somewhere between Burial and Mala of Digital Mystikz, not a bad combination we feel. The laid back nature of this tune hides a real dancefloor killer that when dropped with skill can blow up any rave differently. With airplay from big name DJs and underground players on the fringes of the sound, two top notch releases on their own label 2010, and a release forthcoming on the mighty Hyperdub imprint, Darkstar are more than set to take on the world in ’08, and we feel these tracks help lay down a very solid foundation indeed. Look out for live appearances soon at the Clandestine events Dubpressure and Superdubpressure in Brighton and Edinburgh, and Platform 1 in London.

HF020
Scuba : Hard Boiled / Tell Her : Hotflush : 12"
Hotflush Recordings’ twentieth release presents two tracks from Scuba’s debut album, A Mutual Antipathy, 'Hard Boiled' is a cavernous, spaced-out, minimalist excursion, chewing up and spitting out the Berlin-influenced techno-centric slant on dubstep that has established itself in recent months. 'Tell Her' touches on the classic Scuba contrast of twisted percussion and floating melodies, glacial strings and deepest sub, but with a result that seems completely detached from anything to previously emerge from dubstep’s melting pot of ideas and sounds. Enthusiastically received by Mary Anne Hobbs on Radio 1, and firmly in the boxes of Tayo, Laurent Garnier and all the usual dubstep suspects, this innovative 12” is just a taste of what promises to be one of the most forward-thinking dubstep releases of the year.

Scuba : A Mutual Antipathy : Hotflush : CD
Decamping to Germany has had a profound affect on Paul Rose aka Scuba. Still running the prolific Hotflush and Scuba labels from his Berlin home with a little help from stateside Alex Incyde and a truly legendary international roster, this north London original has taken his imprint and sound undeniably global. Yet, whilst he has yet to adopt lederhosen and start making euro trance, the techno/minimal core of the city has clearly opened up new possibilities for him. I could throw around more wild conjecture, but I bet being so far away from the ..London scene.. has probably allowed him to start confidently exploring new pockets of sound and structure. This long player, (in every sense, the track segue continuously together) is an opulent, yet serious digression from any standard dubstep template, and all the more brilliant for it. The expansion of classic Scuba industrial crunch and groove, means his soundscapes have moved, with great fluidity, into further areas of electronica and techno embellishments, allows the beat to shift tempos and morph patterns, creating an album that ebbs and flows seductively drawing the listener into its magnetic power. Complete and assured, A Mutual Antipathy is dubstep alternative; the perfect balance between Burial..s rusty emo-garage and Benga..s full throttle techno.

Tunnidge : Geddeon / Face Melt : Medi Musik : 12"
Tunnidge makes his debut for the home of heavyweight orthodox dubs, Deep Medi. 'Geddeon' is a static stepper that could have been produced anytime in the last 3 years, sticking as it does to the template laid down by Loefah on 'Horror show', all cavernous reverbed slowsteppers labouring under an all encompassing darkness. 'Face melt' on t'other side doesn't let up, with another unremitting sludge stepper, pressured under the weight of a mammoth sub attack and clocking you round the lungs with some industrial strength snares...(words c/o/ Boomkat)

ACRE003
Marlow : Body Count / Once Upon A Time Called Now : Blackacre : 12"
Finish copy promo ‘Body Count’. Marlow returns with another fusion of both the Angelic and Demonic, delving deep into his cinematic soundtrack foundations. Euphoric strings and synth lines dance effortless above a bass-line with the gravity to drag the moon out of lunar orbit. It's a testament to the Marlow's scientific approach that such a balance can be maintained throughout this epic floor shaker. This is maximal Dubstep best heard on 40K rig during the apocalypse. ‘Once Upon A Time Called Now’ .Once again Marlow pulls the rug from under the expectant listener adding contrast with an altogether more minimal approach. Here the ethereal synths are replaced with grinding bass flourishes and metallic stabs hollowing enough space in sound spectrum to allow the pummelling drum track to breathe. If you picture Body Count as the Theme tune then Once Upon... stands in as a more than adequate fight scene. Support from Howie B, Mary Anne Hobbs, BunZer0, Plastician, Reso, Baobinga & ID. “Black Acre and Marlow team up again for another cracking record” – IDJ.

Compound One : Cohaagen / Get Scared : Compound : 12"
Finish copy promo. Fracture and Qualifide proudly present… Compound One 003 . Cohaagen is the sound of the collision of 21st century dub and classic mid-90s Bristol jungle bassline adventures – this one is set to bring the ruckus on a mammoth scale. The edgy, paranoid vibes are pushed to the max on Get Scared, with eerie, acidic chirps tumbling around the space between the beats, competing with the epic bass explorations… One to get you glancing nervously over your shoulder when it creeps out the speakers! Both tracks have had extensive play from the likes of Hatcha, Headhunter, Breakage, Distance, Scientist, Scuba, EL-B and Dave Q — grab them while you can!

Orien : Look At My Eyes LP : Dub Police : 2x12"
Finish copy promos. Dub Police returns from its ‘License To Thrill’ series with the latest recruit to the ever-expanding list of new dubstep talent coming from the label in the shape of West London’s DJ Orien. ‘Look At My Eyes’ kicks off the EP in rip-roaring style – certainly not for the faint hearted. With its uneasy samples and tearing basslines, it’s not hard to see why it has battered by the dubstep elite and is one of the most in demand tracks of the moment.’Chasing A Never Ending Dream’: Orien shows off his diversity with a contrasting track to the first, with the easy going ‘Chasing A Never Ending Dream’. Luscious pads and warm strings set the tone on this one before dropping into a nice little bubbler.’Belly Of The Beast’ Back to business with ‘Belly Of The Beast’, pacey drums don’t give much away in the intro and leave you unprepared for the onslaught of bass that lies ahead – this one’s more messed up than Michael Jackson’s face. ‘Rainbow Teardrops’ Featured on the ‘Fabric Live 37: Caspa & Rusko’ mix this tune shows again the different styles and flavours of the EP. ‘Rainbow Teardrops’ is deep roller with a creeping bass and kicked back melodies. ’Early Morning Sunrise’: Again more chilled out vibes in the shape of ‘Early Morning Sunrise’ with floating strings and pads a tough saw bass, whilst wondering in and out of a jungle breaks. ‘So Far Gone’:Rounding off the LP is the brilliant ‘So Far Gone’, which seamlessly trots along with its rave synths and squelching bass. Orien shows off his diversity as an artist and further reinforces the Dub Police roster.

HEAVY006
Calenda : Forever / Exploration : Heavy Artillery : 12"
Limited Promo :: with 5 releases from some of the pioneers of today’s uk underground music scene currently beating up record buyers worldwide, heavy artillery are privileged to welcome aboard a newcomer of sorts. the genius that is… calenda, supported by dubchild and 2nd ii none on remix duties. not a newcomer at all in fact, calenda has had many releases under  dj name “jason h” since the late 90’s and he has worked alongside mj cole and qualifide amongst others. as well as being an obviously progressive and talented producer, calenda / jason h can also be found tearing up the radio dial weekly with his long standing rinse fm show being one of the highlights of the roster. here is what dubstep guru from long time, martin clarke had to say about this release: "jason h's long lost classic "forever" is finally coming out. its unveiling, live on kode9's now defunct rinse show, was a wonderful explosion of enthusiasm. by contrast the tune, produced as calenda and forthcoming on rossi b's heavy artillery, still sounds frighteningly next level, with skeleton percussion that gives away to frenetic near-gunshot kickdrum bursts, cheap dissonant riffs and swelling classical string samples. it's a truly remarkable track."

HES004
TRG : Broken Heart (Martyns DCM Remix) / Broken Heart (Martyns DCM Remix) : Hessle : 12"
Finish copy promo. Hessle Audio present two remixes of tracks by Romanian producer TRG. The originals were released on Hessle Audio 001. Martyn made his dubstep debut early last year with a 12” on Marcus Intalex’s ‘Revolve:R” label. The Eindhoven born, Washington DC resident producer/DJ has given ‘Broken Heart’ a complete reworking in his own inimitable style by infusing deep Detroit house vibes with mighty sub bass pressure – and to startling effect! This remix has received wide acclaim in the dubstep scene and beyond, with extensive support on BBC Radio 1 and at seminal dubstep events such as FWD and DMZ. On the flip, Ramadanman’s long awaited reworking of ‘Put You Down’ sees the light of day. Retaining the 2-step vibe, the original is stripped down to its bare essentials - yet the remix manages to create a sense of both space and presence in equal measure. Cross genre support from Kode9 (Hyperdub), Mary Anne Hobbs (Radio1), Rob Da Bank (Radio1), Gilles Peterson [Radio1], Flight (1Xtra / Play Musik), Breakage (Digital Soundboy), Sven Weismann (Moujba / Meanwhile), Chefal (Rinse FM), Paul Rose (Hotflush), Appleblim (Skull Disco / Tempa) “Not as a DnB head but as a music lover in general, let me tell you that this is a gorgeous piece of music. Love it!' Bailey [Metalheadz, 1xtra] Press:‘Single of the Month’ features in Mixmag + iDJ, ATM magazine – “This will sit in your box for years.

Tipped for big things in 2008, Alex Metric is deadly on a mission to destroy dancefloors – and expectations. His second e.p. for Marine Parade (following last years acclaimed Whatshewants), Metric’s latest effort caps a stellar moment for the young U.K. artist/producer/DJ. He was named “Remixer of 2007” by XFM’s Eddy Temple Morris, following in the heady footsteps of Jacques Le Cont, Phones, Jagz Kooner and Unkle—“fucking heroes of mine, in fact,” he says of the honor.

MAPA041
Adam Freeland : The Hate EP : Marine Parade : 12"
The crunching title track—already the floor-filling highlight of Freeland’s sets—sums up his latest musical direction. From its first snare crack, “Hate” instantly transforms into a stripped-down, balls-out anthem free of the fromage usually associated with that word. “Hate” proves a minimalist masterpiece, molding stuttering, squiggly beats and squelching, distorted bass booms into anarchic electro fury; the only vocals feature a synthesized voice hauntingly repeating the title over and over. Imagine if Mr. Oizo got his hands on “Doom’s Night” and you get a little window into how massive and revolutionary this storming tune is. Expect this one to become a cross-genre smash a la Freeland’s breakthrough hit “We Want Your Soul”: from Ed Banger electro freaks to dubstep heads, breaks geeks to even forward-thinking techno/prog spinners, all will find something to love about “Hate.”  The e.p.’s second track, “Where’s Your God Now?,” continues Freeland’s ability to defy convention while keeping asses shaking. Opening  with a surreal burst of krautrock synths, “Where’s Your God Now” slows down the tempo to showcase a meat-cleaving hard rock riff that suggests what might’ve happened if Josh Homme and Jack White were Moog manglers instead of guitar heroes. This is drone rock for the dancefloor, Freeland style, riding an unforgivably funky beat into a transcendent flurry of shoegazed-out feedback bliss. Meanwhile, true to its ironically ravetastic  title, “Glowsticks,” the e.p.’s closer, brings it all back home with a club killer par excellence. Glitchy synth hooks give way to Moroder arpeggios and menacing acid basslines before a shamelessly hands-in-the-air, future-retro breakdown raises everything to a higher state of consciousness. Providing the perfect taster for Freeland’s upcoming artist album (due Spring 2008), “Glowsticks” epitomizes his explosive attitude that’s perfectly captured fia Hate’s thrill ride: keep the crowd moving while surprising them with every twist and turn.

MAPA042
Sta : In Living Colour (D.I.M. Remix) : Marine Parade : 12"
The title track has the perfect balance of driving club energy and pop aesthetics. It’s funky as hell and has got the same catchiness of early Rex The Dog and Free Form Five material.  ‘SEX’ is a much different tempo, drawing on heavy Baile-funk influences, this is ghetto pop made for the dancefloor and it sounds heavy. Rounding off the EP is a remix of ‘In Living Colour’ by Turbo/Boysnoize DIM. Heralded as one of the new stars of electro, DIM brings a slightly dirtier feel to the proceedings. Stomping beats and a supreme low-end bassline supply the backbone with the considerably lighter vocal maintaining the equilibrium. All thriller, no filler makes ‘In Living Colour’ a rather special debut…

Smart Systems : Tingler (30Hz /Kouncil House /Smart System RMXS) : Jumpin & Pumpin : 12"
Ahead of the issue of THE PULSE EPs for the very first time on CD, The Future Sound Of London have resurrected one of their best loved pseudonyms. In its original version “Tingler” was the lead track on The Pulse EP Volume 3, released in 1991 just ahead of their biggest tune of all time “Papua New Guinea”. Since the 90s The Pulse EPs have been extremely sought after on vinyl (exchanging hands for fortunes on eBay), and with “Tingler” being one of the most popular tracks in the series it’s being released again here with three brand new remixes. The original will appear soon on the Pulse EP CD as part of the original 16 track selection across four volumes, so for now the remixes are exclusive to this limited edition 12” single.
