Brookes Brothers : F Zero / Dawn Treader (w. Futurebound) : Breakbeat Kaos : PIC DISC 12"
Brookes Brothers unleash their second single for Breakbeat Kaos, following their 'Mistakes / Hard Knocks' debut, and a heavily musical experience it is. Having already established a name for quality within the space of a few releases in drum & bass this single drives them further into the dancefloor area whilst retaining all the musical creativity they are becoming known for. Strengthening the single further, the other side of the single sees them team up with Futurebound of Viper  Recordings fame, whose album 'Universal Truth' with Matrix has been acclaimed as one of '07's dance albums of the year. On 'Dawn Treader' futurebound and Brookes Brothers combine their unmistakeably luscious hi energy sound to make this an essential picking for any dj worth his salt.a) F Zero  aa) Dawn Treader (w. A Sides : Diamond Series Volume 2 : Eastside Music : 12"
Diamond series Volume 2 has two A Sides classics reworked into 2008 killers by two of D&B's leading dancefloor producers. Twisted Individual skanks out 'Tear The Roof Off' with bassline carnage and a bouncing funk groove. From the 36th chamber DJ Vapour remixes 'Tabletop' adding his unmistakable bass grime and deep textures. Growling yet smooth this rolls with attitude. A proper 12" been in the boxes of Randall, Doc Scott and Grooverider. a A Sides - Tear The Roof Off (Twisted Individual Remix) b A Sides - Tabletop ( DJ Vapour Remix)

NZ001
State Of Mind / Trei : True Stories : Samurai Music : 10" White
Now re-released on Limited Edition white vinyl. 'True Stories' - Sauntering in with a displaced but familiar swagger, trademark beats roll into a plucked guitar funkism and the vocal that drifts over the top subtley delivering the tracks title. The drop stutters to a peak and gives way to an almighty neuro bassgrind that never becomes too over bearing but does the job extremely effectively. The result of this genius collaboration sits stylistically somewhere between Ed Rush & Optical's classic 'Bacteria' and Noisia's 'Concussion'. Add a scuba diving second breakdown with teeth, and you have a massive hit on New Zealand student radio, currently sitting at number 3 on the national alternative chart. 'Lonely Planet' - A menacing tone sets the pace for the sci fi wind up with distant 'huh's' yelling at the quivering robotic vocal that anchors the tune. Rolling drums pause for a moment to unleash the sub heavy bassline accentuated by uneasy percussion and other world mutterings and effects, while a distorted lead sparingly lifts the track as its bassline does all the work. Fans of the lads 'Back to The Jungle' will definitely be ready for a trip to the 'Lonely Planet' Samurai Music is a label from New Zealand primarily focused on providing a benchmark for New Zealand Drum n Bass producers, both new and old to aspire to. A & R'd by DJ Presha, expect the cream of New Zealands freshest talent to be providing beats for Samurai Music, to be released in unique art and packaging strictly on 10" vinyl. International guest releases are also planned on Samurai Music, the main criteria being an affinity with the New Zealand scene and vibe. The first of these guests will be Mr Tom Withers aka Klute, who is a close friend of Aotearoa and it's drum and bass scene, and a regular visitor for the past 7 years. Watch for 4 more releases to follow in quick succession from Klute, Mosus, Trei & Dose with many more to come a State Of Mind & Trei - True Stories b State Of Mind - Lonely Planet

Immaculate production and dark, dirt neuro funk in the area. 'Take Them Down', is the latest track from the Through The Looking Glass album. The UK's finest purveyor of dark side future filth, unrelenting, immaculately engineered and managing to maintain a real warmth despite its futuristic sound. Leaving you squirming on the floor as it pounds away at your senses, its gnarling bass laced with sci fi exploration. Imagine classic Virus Ed Rush & Optical meeting Noisia , and your getting close. 'Mr Tuttle's Nightmare' is just as essential. Blistering beats and maelstrom of mutated bass, DJ Friendly and rolling to full effect. DJ Trax : Warmth / B’s Theme : Paradox : 12"
Moving Shadow hardcore veteran Dj Trax makes his debut on Paradox Music with a beautiful 12" that ticks all the correct boxes. A great start to 2008 as Trax delivers 'Warmth', a roller with real class in production and arrangement. Soothing vocals intro 'Warmth' with impressive piano hooks. As the breaks enter and gather momentum the track builds up to a switch of tougher beats and bass but still keeps it tight together. The track rolls well into a breakdown of pure quality that demonstrates the dnb knowledge and experience of the producer. 'Warmth' add's another fine chapter to the timeless catalogue of Paradox Music. On the flip Trax switches the funk drum kit and takes you on a breakbeat ride synamous with the Paradox Music style and sound. Piano scales open up 'Bs Theme' into an impressive slice of funk and bass. The breaks and catchy b-line nod your head along with strings and synth arpeggio's which add to the theme. Once again Trax displays real funk and emotion thru Paradox Music. Enjoy! Who's playing them?.. Makoto, Alix Perez, BigBud, Flight, Marcus Intallex, A-Sides, Blumarten, Kryptic Minds, Seba. a DJ Trax - Warmth b DJ Trax - B's Theme

MTRVPR006
Matrix vs. Futurebound : Womb / Family (Nu:Tone & Logistics Remix) : Metro/Viper : 12"
After delivering what was arguably the Drum and Bass album of 2007 in the shape of 'Universal Truth', Matrix & Futurebound are kicking off the new year in similar style. Taking it's name from the legendary Tokyo superclub, 'Womb' opens with a grand orchestral intro and a cavernous tribal vocal loop before breaking into a high tech synthetic chord progression. Heavyweight organic beats and a healthy does of fat analogue bass complete the picture. The flip side sees the 'Universal Truth' album cut 'Family' given a brand new face lift for 2008 and who better to  perform the remix duties than brothers Nu:Tone and Logistics. Pristine soulful stabs and a super deep pulsing sub bass are the perfect compliment to the bitter sweet vocals of the much revered Robert Owens. Make no mistake, this one's classy. Solid DJ support from all the usual suspects including radio play from Radio 1's Annie Mac.

VRS020
Optical : Electric Music / Kung Fu : Virus : 12"
'2008 will be a busy year for Virus, kicking off with our 20th single release, by label co-founder, Optical. 'Electric Music' has been  smashed by all the top DnB Dj's throughout the second half of 2007 and is finally seeing a release on the label, with its driving bass and twisted overdrive fills and  sick 21st century techno sounds. The flip has been the Virus secret weapon over the new year, 'Kung Foo' has all the hallmarks of a quality dancefloor destroyer, the intro builds to a massive rock techno crescendo with a drop that smashes it everywhere and classic rave sounds reworked for the new millennium.' lLook out for forthcoming releases including the rework of the classic 'Rocket-Launcher' by Sonic & Sliver and singles from Ed Rush & Optical, The Upbeats & Noisia, plus a new LP from Ed Rush & Optical in the summer, featuring a return to the roots of the Virus sound.

PUNCHY001
Nero : Solid Air / Choices : Punchy  : 12"
Over the last couple of years NERO have been causing quite a stir in the drum and bass scene. Their acclaimed release REQUIEM EP was a huge hit among Radio1 DJs such as Zane Lowe, Jo Whiley, Pete Tong and of course Fabio and Grooverider. High Contrast included the EP track 'Bitch I'm Gone' in his mix for the legendary 'Fabric Live' CD series. NERO's latest release to date, ENERGY is still destroying dancefloors across the world and featured in Andy C's mix for the cover CD of prestigious dance magazine 'Mixmag'. In 2007 NERO decided they wanted to launch their own label, PUNCHY RECORDINGS. They approached the project with the view that songs on the label should not only be big dancefloor tunes, but also be easily listenable to in a home environment, and accessible to d&b and non-d&b heads alike. Future collaborations are planned with some of the most exciting up-and-coming talent and fully established artists within the scene. Expect big things... Enough with the intro. Here's the first release on PUNCHY RECORDINGS, a double-header with SOLID AIR up first. A warm, euphoric, orchestral track led by a soulful vocal (courtesy of NERO's resident vocalist Alana), which becomes almost hypnotic as the huge trails of delay build up a wall of sound. The clean, phat beats and rumbling bass interlock in perfect harmony with the lush string melodies whilst various organs and synths provide constant interest. CHOICES follows on from Solid Air in its warm and euphoric feel. It begins with a simple melodic staccato riff,  constantly building toward a monumental drop. A politically potent vocal and epic orchestral arrangement are pierced by a melodic lead synth and harmonic electro(like) bassline. The track draws to a close with an emotive sax solo that gradually appears from the distance before fading into the horizon accompanied by the rest of the song. Both tracks have received DJ support from Fabio, High Contrast, Pendulum, Brookes Brothers and DJ SS to name just a few.

OSR020
Sileni / Hi-Lar : Black Rocket / Back On Trip (LXC Remix) : Offshore
Finished Copy promo. The first Sileni track on Offshore since "Twitchy Droid Leg" (granted it came out on 4 different instances due to all of the remixes). "Black Rocket" is a banger in the vein of the dirty 98 Bristol-sound that was cherished by folks like Decoder and Tech Itch. A reverberating wood block snare, a big fat distorted bassline and dizzying white noise to fill up any frequency space that was left make this track a tough pill to swallow. Let's not forget Sileni's signature edits that riddle "Black Rocket", words really don't do it justice. Flip it over for some German minimal funk from Alphacut's front man, LXC. Originally released on the Plain Audio digital imprint, "Back On Trip" gets reworked into a bouncy, quirky little number that offers a completely different take on the current state of Drum & Bass. The remix is steppy, but at the same time it hits hard and holds the listeners interest with edits and an array of sounds all meticulously engineered. LXC not only runs Alphacut and produces, but he is also a cutting engineer, so you know it sounds good. a Sileni - Black Rocket b Hi-Lar - Back On Trip (LXC Remix)

TEMPALP10
Benga : Diary Of An Afro Warrior : Tempa : 3x12"
'Night', the anthemic underground smash single lifted from the album has literally had ravers from countless club scenes, DJs and grandparents whistling and humming its infectious melody for months now. lIn addition to becoming the first dubstep record to be  playlisted on BBC Radio 1. 'Night' represented Benga's  tipping point for many DJ's and music lovers across the globe, including Gilles Peterson ('Night' was his Single Of The Year), Ricardo Villalobos, Pete Tong, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Herve, Shy FX and many others regardless of genre. So we know how well 'Night' has been received, can we say the same of the album? Once the journey begins it becomes clear what all the fuss is about, neither relying on incessant  wobbling basslines to grab attention nor sailing toward the  'coffee table' banner, Benga has managed to create an album with duality. For times when your ear is keen and your speakers are of the Bang & Olufsen ilk, the intelligence and quality of production shines through. The superb dance-ability, grooves and emotions remain present on even the tinniest of speakers. Herein lies Benga's massive crossover appeal.

Goth Trad : Far East Assassin (DJ Distance Remix) : Skud Beat : 12"
GOTH-TRAD returns to Skud with a second release guaranteed to make your head explode and your bones shudder. Far East Assasin is probably the craziest dubstep song to date, beginning with an eighties like guitar riff it immediately grabs your ear, que the harsh bass stabs and the hard head rocking begins until it swoops into an almighty 4/4 bass driven monster. The Dj Distance mix strips the elements of the original down and gives it an absolute distance weighted bass portion that has been rattling eyes from FWD>> to DMZ. A true quality heavy weight release from Skud receiving props from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, Hatcha, N Type, Mala to name a few! HF019
Jazzsteppa : Jakin / Two : Hotflush  : 12"
Quite possibly Hotflush's biggest and most ground-breaking release to date, with two productions from newcomers Jazzsteppa. Formed in 2006 from Berlin, Germany, they fuse aspects of dub, glitchy electronica, jazz, dubstep and more, utilising both live and pre-produced elements in their performances. Jazzsteppa consists of four major members: Barbie on trombone and MC duties, Mathieu Pe on trumpet and effects, Katalyze! on production and noise, and Xperimentalist on drums, effects and production. Expanding on the elements presented in their taster, 'One' featured on the Hotflush Presents... 'Space and Time' LP, this 12" starts with 'Jakin', a more melodic piece, yet not lacking in deep bass, with meaty drums and solid assaults of live horns throughout. 'Two' takes it in a completely different direction, upping the BPM and the distortion, with more experimentation on drum patterns and plenty of bass, while still leaving room for a melodic finish. a Jazzsteppa - Jakin b Jazzsteppa - Two

EAR006
Moldy ft Juakali : Glory : Earwax : 12"
Finish copy propmo. 'Earwax looks West once again for its new release... Not to the West Country as per usual, but much further a field - across the Atlantic to the Big Apple, New York City! In an exclusive collaboration featuring Moldy on the buttons and the everversatile Dub War host Juakali on lyrical duties, 'Glory' smashes boundaries between dubstep, dancehall, jungle, techno and many other genres around and between. This really is just good music for people with good ears! 'Glory' opens with a dramatic intro of sampled, filtered horns - dug from the crates old school style - then, all of a sudden… the ambush! In comes a simple but rolling half step rhythm, soon charged with pounding subs. Juakali's vocals flow over in perfect unison with the beats - he's really on form here! As the melody builds, layered with subtle horn cuts, Juakali's energetic lyrical flow delivers a conscious message that will fire up a dance, be it dubstep, dancehall, roots or whatever… Check! Don't like vocals? Wanna run your own acappella over the rhythm? Just flip over for 'Glory Dub' - the instrumental version… Seen? With the instantly recognisable string intro, Dispute drops into a mad frenzy of techno percussion layered over the mammoth, sonically-rich bass that has become Marlow's trademark. The remix of Everyday is sure to get any dance-floor rocking. The catchy vocals from Bongo Chilli sit perfectly over the screaming bass and bleepy synth melody. ACRESB001
Sarantis : Meditate / Vendetta : Blackacre SB : 12"
Finish copy promo. Kicking off Black Acre's all new vehicle for haunted Dancehall and meditive bass-weight we have Athens born, Leeds resident, Sarantis. This genre bending producer has swiftly become a producer of high pedigree established via collabos with Warrior Queen and consistent releases via the highly regarded Senseless. Meditate - This smoked out skankers anthem features rootical vocal snippets contrasting with glitchy digital anomalies that punctuate the track. Neck snapping snares betray Sarantis' firm foundations in both dancehall and grime combining with the slinky line in bass work to give Meditate that next type-a- motion to move a dance. Vendetta - A storm of twisted and metallic synths that cling even harder to Sarantis' Grime roots, taking proceedings into a darker and more intimidating place. Scattershot 808 claps & crashes are driven by a tidal wave of crunchy mids and bowel quaking low-end wobble. Robotic and funky. ATG031
Splitloop : Electricity / Release Remove : Against The Grain : 12"
This double header single is barely out of the studio and is already causing a huge stir in club land.  Splitloop have been enjoying plenty of praise and support for their recent work, from featuring on Krafty Kuts Fabric Live CD, to  regular plays on Annie Nightingales Radio 1 breaks show to packing out Brighton's Concorde club to the tune of 700 party people. Dublin's numero uno electronic duo are well and truly here and stand before you with an impressive twelve inch package in hand. Electricity blurs the lines between the genres of house and breaks with a beautifully crafted piece of futuristic  electro-funk. Whilst the flip side packs a tech house monster in the form of 'Release Remove', increasing the duos  reputation for seamless dance music in all it's forms. Anthem is a word often over used on unworthy tracks, but it sits comfortably with this killer package. Splitloop continue their assault on the dance floors and airwaves in preparation for their new album, 'Pleasure Machine'.

Mr Elastik : Justice (Original / Ninelives The Cat RMX) : Sokolov : 12"
Finished copy promo. Yes, we have been quiet for the past few months and it felt as if we needed a breather after an action packed series of top releases, from Sokolov EP via "Perestroika" culminating with highly acclaimed "Sure Shock" by NineLives The Cat. But believe you us it is all for a very good reason indeed. Sokolov Sounds is now ready to proudly announce its new signing mr.elastik and the two part - super package "Justice" (yes we know! But this little gem has been made and named just before the mega famous Frenchies took over the world). Bulgarian born House/Techno/Electro/Kwaitech... ..blah blah, producer/dj from Cape Town, mr. elastik is the more minimal inspired alter ego of fidget dude: the Bulgarian mr.elastik is for the other side of his artistic expressions, anything from soft minimal compositions, to driving techno, to post minimal-fidget experimentalist electro-techno... either way he is the guy who just loves to see people shake it on the dancefloor. "Justice", the original mix, has been caned by the Klaxons! since the beginning of the year, from various dancefloors all the way to Annie Nightingale and Annie Mac shows. Naturally, we at Sokolov HQ's have decided to add more of the icing on the cake by commissioning few of the top profile remixes, hence, a two part package. Apart from the original, part one also sees NineLives The Cat on remix duty and boy does he deliver! a Mr Elastik - Justice (Original mix) b Mr Elastik - Justice (Ninelives The Cat Remix)
