Twisted's first 12" on Grid of 2008 is the start of a whole load of fresh material we'll be hearing throughout this year, with 12", EPs and a collaboration album with Zen in the pipeline. 'Shit Don't Stink' is a message to all those who think they're a cut above the rest - Twisted has come to tell them that isn't the case! A high pitched flute sounding riff, along with menacing vocals make up the intro for this one. The bassline switches up throughout the track as bongos and frantic percussion keep the track moving along at breakneck speed. Twisted goes tribal on 'Back Up Plan'. NHS133
VA : Friendly Fire EP (Blame/Makoto/Fracture&Survival/Agent Alvin) : Hospital : 2x12"
4/5 in Mixmag "it's the old school hero Blame who really delivers here" Back with a bang! Hospital's infamous Weapons series returns with this pocket rocket EP. It's number four in the series and there are four long range acoustic weapons here to draw for. A. Blame - "Hindsight" - That classic Blame sound lived large in 2008. Championed by High Contrast in both his Radio One Essential mix of the year, and forthcoming "Watch The Ride" compilation. Acoustic arpeggios layer up against synth after synth to produce a breathtaking arsenal of sound. B. Fracture & Survival - "Tracks Of Time" - Some military brass on manoeveures, or just the kind of Drum & Bass the Grimethorpe colliery band would make if they ended up on a night out at Hospitality? You decide! What's not in doubt is that Charlie Fracture & Steve Survival have delivered a soul-fuelled brass & bass masterpiece with an  infectious hook and some seriously moody subs. Urban assault - Stoke Newington style! C. Makoto & T-Ak - "Voyager" - The type of feel good roller that gives you a grin from ear to ear and reminds you why you love DnB. Simple and deadly, this intercontinental ballistic strips through the defences to deliver an explosive payload of NHS goodness all the way from Tokyo. Guaranteed to provide any dancefloor with the right supply of funk and fun. D. Agent Alvin -"Superhighway" - Agent Alvin is the latest in prestigious line of Antipodean DnB talent! With a big 12" in 2007 on the venerable Full Cycle imprint, he's carved out a niche for himself with intricate production and a big room sound. Superhighway smacks hard with retro synths and the weight of a gnarling bass. Awesome, whether you're  listening in Auckland or Acton.

ZOMBIEUK18
Special Patrol Group : Partical Beam / Supernova : Zombie : 12"
Special Patrol Group bag their first ever release and come with something a little different. 'Partical Beam' gives a nod to the Bodyrock school of Drum and Bass but keeps things datively minimal. A simple hi-hat and fx's get the track going before a fierce drum roll kicks in and the bassline takes control. When a single bongo is all it takes to add a new dimension to a track, you know that some time has gone in its conception. Minimal and  simple it may be, but it's definitely a party track. A naughty bit of jump up that keeps away from the formulas being rinsed all over the scene at the moment.  Plays from DJ Marky, Hype, Chrissy Chris and more - not bad for a debut release. 'Supernova' is a hypnotic synth lead track with tough drums, calming but eerie strings and a whole load of sub to shake the walls down!

HUMA8023
Demo & Cease : Ladies Night (Original / Vip) : Human Imprint : 12"
Dieselboy's A&R skills are always on point and that shines through once again on the latest dancefloor destroying 12" to drop on his Human Imprint label. In true Drum & Bass tradition 'Ladies Night' is one of those tracks that everyone and their mom has wanted a copy of for the last year, but it's only now that it finally sees a vinyl release! You're treated to both the original and VIP mixes here, the original is no less than a work of energetic genius, one complaint levelled at Demo & Cease is that they've taken the backbone of Spirit's 'Siren' for this track, but while there are similar ideas 'Ladies Night' distils them into a pure shot of vigorous D&B moonshine that far surpasses expectation. Meanwhile, the VIP mix manages to keep a restraint on the drums, offering a more DJ friendly two-step beat and a massive half-time breakdown. Girl, you know a bitch is a HOOOOO!

XS010
Modified Motion & Faction/Soundclash : The Darkness/Sound Killa : Xs
Opening with orchestral provenance and Modified Motion & Faction's usual brand of Jump Up nuttiness, 'The Darkness' is dancefloor killing material through and through. Pulling no punches in traditional XS Records style, it's easy to see why this label is standing out amongst the crowd at the moment. More orchestral influences with some mental choral business on the flip as Benny Page & Zero G bring the pain with 'Sound Killa', a bass heavy monster that rounds off this 12" perfectly. If you like your Drum & Bass wobbly and noisy, this is the one for you no dizzle.

FF011
Chook : Trainspot (Misanthrop Remix) : Full Force : 12"
Finish copy promo. Hazy eyes awake to a dark, mysterious setting. Suspense lingers as the introduction begins. The invasion of static mutates the airwaves, opposing a major threat to recovery. Sharp, skin cutting percussion sets the senses on high alert, preparing the body for the breaks. Thick, grungy midlines shiver feverishly in cold textures, while an edgy rolling bassline coats the walls of the sound chamber. The white noise regains control of the vessel, paralyzing all running systems and thus forbidding any chance of outside contact. The signal is set, the fate is sealed. The rugged, minimal funk pollutes another mind and executes it's venomous destiny. Chook - Trainpsot [Misanthrop Remix] German powerhouse, Misanthrop, steps up for his first contribution to the Full Force stable with a masterful remix of Chook's sinister roller, 'Trainspot'. Flexing his signature style of high voltage funk and chest rupturing bass, Misanthrop adds another layer to the legend in this can't miss, must have" remix classic. Once again, Full Force proves to be one of the most respected outlets in the game for pure quality in future funk beats.

B) SENTRY - SABRE & ICICLE: Two of the hottest producers step up to the creative challenge and meet two ways with this massive stepper! This one's greatest strength lies within its dancefloor sensibility of a massive grooving bassline, decorated with tech bleeps, swirling atmospheres and sparse atmospheres. XLT335
Tom Yorke : The Eraser Rmxs (Burial RMX) : XL : 12"
EXTREMELY LIMITED 12" EDITION HOUSED IN A DELUXE GOLD-FOIL SLEEVE - The first of these three EP's opens with the mighty Burial remix, another shocking arrangement of impossibly squashed percussion and unknown samples weaved in an out of Thom Yorke's ever-so-delicately manipulated voice. It's predictably mighty, and is worthy of the cost of admission alone. Thom Yorke favourites Modeselektor are up next, their reworking of Skip Divided pitching down the vocals almost imperceptibly, harrowing strings adding structure while the beats link up as tight and nervous as ever. Various Production finish this first EP with a dubstep variation complete with stretched snares and grime progressions. Their production tends to shine around vocals, and this is one of their finest - edgy and oddly moving, a juxtaposition Yorke himself no doubt approves of. Brilliant stuff - HURRY!(Words by Boomkat)

TEMPA30CD
Benga & Coki : Night : Tempa : CD Single
Released late 2007 as an extremely limited uncredited promo 12" and now finally due for official release, we proudly present one of the most infectious dance tracks for years - Benga & Coki's 'Night' - set to be one of 2008's most  phenomenal dance releases. l'Night' is a massive hit across all dance genres from nu-rave to bassline house and the biggest anthem on the  holiday islands of summer '07. 'Night' and T2's 'Heartbroken' were the two biggest tunes in Ayia Napa. l'Night' falls into that very special bracket of specialist music that has the ability to transcend its genre. DUB001
Rakoon : Warrior Dub / Barry : Dub Bullet : 12"
Dub Bullet Recordings first release comes courtesy of Racoon.  The A side 'Warrior Dub' is a dark, dirty, hard hitter, featuring killer analogue synth stabs and the obligatory chest crushing sub bass.  The B side 'Barry' is more techy and ambient, but when it drops it still hits hard with its complex wobbling bassline and a snare that slaps you in the face.  Fans of the darker dubstep sound will love this 12"!

STORM014
Dubchild : Take Me (Boxcutter RMX) / Mount Zion (Protocol X RMX) : Storming : 12"
Finish copy promos. Stupidly good package from Storming productions. Barry Lynn (aka Boxcutter) remixes Dubchild's Take Me's grubby bass, heavy beats adding all manner of electronic contortions. Maintaining perfect balance between hard-edged and softcentred musical stylings. Once again making it clear that he is a producer with a far broader sound than most of his contemporaries. Deep dark and glitchy, Protocols X's sick remix of Mount Zion is one heavy, heavy remix. Taking on influence from Drum & Bass and Grime sound palette's, making use of live rolling drums and blunted stabs for a heavyweight beast t for a big system; the bass would no doubt re-arrange internal organs! Storming always favours the kind of gnarly dubstep that takes on influence from Drum & Bass and Grime sound palette's, and this opening remix from Distance is no exception - making use of live rolling drums and blunted stabs for a heavyweight beast not for the fainthearted.

HES003
Untold : Kingdom / Purify / Test Signal : Hessle : 12"
Finish Copy promos. For their third outing, Hessle Audio present an EP by Jack 'Untold' Dunning, from leafy north London. Following a massive remix of Dark Angel for Boka Records, this release showcases Untold's unique style and flawless production over three tracks. 'Kingdom' occupies all of side A and is a tribal halfstepper of the deepest order - its lurching bassline and percussion trundle their way through the rainforest to be met with acclaim from Plastician and Paul Rose (Scuba - Hotflush). 'Purify' continues where 'Kingdom' left off on Side B, but raises the dancefloor stakes and energy levels with the squelchiest of squelchy basslines which provides some serious sub pressure for the tribal dance. Last but certainly not least, Untold rounds off his EP with 'Test Signal'. This tune has received extensive support from Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC Radio 1, as well as accolades from techno legend Pole and Berlin's Hardwax crew. The tune showcases Untold's amazing fusion of old school junglist vibes with ultra-crisp production - shuddering, cavernous basslines twist and turn throughout, and an urgent techy arpeggio exemplifies the tune's nervous energy. Untold is definitely an artist to watch in 2008.

RUNTIME002
Elemental : Blob / Sirens (Elemental 07 Refix) : Runtime : 12"
Finish copy promo. Elemental has been a firm fixture in the dubstep scene for several years now, dishing up his unique blend of dub and breaks on a wide variety of labels - including Hot Flush, Destructive and Pitch Black, and inclusion on Tayo's FabricLive CD - reflecting the breadth of sounds and influences he brings together in his music.Runtime Records, originally founded as an outlet for his own music but lying dormant since its first release, is resurrected to unleash fresh Elemental riddims on an unsuspecting public… Blob draws the listener in from the very first strains, fragile glassy synths swirling overhead as a rough bouncing bassline comes barrelling through between clattering breaks. As the track develops, flyaway arpeggios scatter while dub effects ping off the snares. Sirens, as the name suggests, is a sweet song to mesmerise all who hear it, soft female vocals and wistful strings giving no warning for the percussive assault of drums and bass. Rolling ever onwards, the burbling subs are joined by a razor sharp acidic reese which rips through the track, perfectly balancing the rough with the smooth.

'overload'  the 6th release from waveshape records features two tracks from anti-science that takes you in two entirely different directions. first up is overload, which is a storming melodic breaks track that was inspired by the melodies of trance and combined with the banging beats  & booming bass that characterizes the nu skool breaks sound! like the name suggests, this tune will overwhelm your senses and leave you wanting more.     'electrowave'  on the flip side comes a slice of breaks that is heavy with techno influences and entitled electrowave. this 'no holds barred' breaks tune comes complete with an infectious bassline accompanied by a myriad of twisted vocal samples, fx and synths. both tracks are sure to demolish dance floors everywhere with their innovative arrangements & sounds that test the limits of what a nu skool breaks can be.
