DRUM & BASS ORDER LIST
ARRIVING OCTOBER 24-27

I didn't get any feedback on last week's list - and I am having a really difficult time trying out what is best for you.  I have some questions, and I would appreciate your answers :)

1.  Do you like the summary view (spreadsheet format) or do you like to look at the part with the samples?

2.  Do you read the descriptions - or just listen to the samples?

3.  Is it more important to see new titles first -- or to keep tabs on what is arriving & when it will be here?

This week we have a different format again - everything is lumped together and the sections are NEXT WEEK,  1-2 WEEKS, and DUBSTEP.

* If you have a request - please just copy & paste what you want and email it back to me doug at poo-bas.com   or you can look at a more extensive paper version of the list available at the store on saturdays.  Just write your name beside the request.

* Titles from the 1-2 week section are only on the spreadsheet that Brent has

I think this is a little easier for you - let me know what you think!

BARONINC009 Out Of Here - The Alternative Baron Incorporated 12" Vinyl
Who Is The Alternative? There is still some mystery concerning the identity of the this artist, but who cares when the tunes are this good. Produced with a intense cutting edge both sides are manic chemical party pieces that gets you jumping. Smashed by Hype, Friction, Fresh, Baron and Adam F to name a few, You won’t be leaving the dance floor!

PC067 Motion Sickness SPL Remix - The Panacea / SPL Position Chrome 12" Vinyl
A classic by Mootz given the overhaul by SPL, taking the elements of the original and adding the weight for 2007. SPL has done the original justice with his trademark use of effects and a big bassline churning through sound systems with a marching break giving head spinning momentum,. The track has shaken dance floors to rubble and now its your turn to do the same! on the flip ‘Fade’ by SPL. The young Jedi comes correct with this piece of funk, wicked bass stabs instantly conjure up images of what can only be described as robot mechanical funk. Totally mixable for the DJ’s out there and interesting enough to keep the casual listener interested until the end. Clarity is the keyword here, as SPL’s production quality rises above so many others! A stellar debut for SPL on Position Chrome.

WARM012 Energy Core - ASC Warm Communications 12" Vinyl
Having released on many labels such as Offshore, Inperspective, Vibez, Transmute, Soothsayer, running his own imprint “Covert Operations”, a dubstep label him and his wife manage “Vaccine”…saying this man is busy would be a understatement! Whether is uplifting and rolling drum & bass you’re after or dark and menacing, ASC can bring it! This is his third outing on Warm Communications and probably our favorite 12 he’s done for us! SIDE A: -ENERGY CORE Easily one of the labels favorite tunes ASC has released with us. Dark sound effects & glitches open the tune up leaving you wondering when it’s gonna drop. A stomping 2 step beat charges through making it’s way up to the bass. Steady and rolling is the theme for this auditory sci fi adventure! Quirkly effects, solid beats, thumping bass and a vibe all it’s own make this a winner! Any fans of Polar’s past material will have their mouth’s watering for this slice of future funk! SIDE B:-GREYSCALE Greyscale is the flip here, and takes charge right from the drop. Pounding pneumatic beats, with hydraulic bass, propel this track in a way unheard before. When it breaksdown, is when the magic begins. A dark but anthemic chord progression with pads sets the pace for the vocal to make its way into your head before heading back to those deadly beats. You want something original and breathtaking? Well here it is!

SHA016 The Resolution- Alix Perez Shogun Audio 12" Vinyl
After his land-mark Shogun Audio debut in May, Alix Perez follows up with a release of the highest calibre, glowing forth his musical  talents with two tracks of audio delight & diversity. Universally accepted as one of the most exciting young producers of the scene today, Alix’s status within the scene is growing by the day, with this release adding to his already impressive back catalogue. Having featured heavily in the sets of Friction, Fabio, Hype and Marky, ‘The Resolution’ has been smashing a variety of dancefloors across the globe for the last few months, and proves a deeper, darker side to the ‘Groove Merchant’. Still maintaining his trademark sound with smooth soundscapes and rugged grooves, the combination of murky vocals and a dangerously venomous bassline contrast for maximum effect. ‘Vanguard’ offers a deliciously smooth angle to this release. From the depths of the ‘Perez’ sample vaults springs another rustic riff, chopped and rearranged over layers of hypnotic beats to create the focal groove. With elements of funk clearly present throughout, the track escalates offering delicate vocals that float elegantly above. Gaining major love and constant plays from the likes of Fabio, LTJ Bukem, Marcus Intalex.

TRIM004 Kontamin - Martsman Trust In Music 12" Vinyl
Coming up with a mixture of Drumfunk elements, Dubstep vibes and old school sounds, Martsman is the new kid on the block that will prove you wrong if you thought you´ve heard it all in Drum & Bass."Kontamin" is a journey back to the good old days when Jungle didn´t have the obligation for constant climax that is found in most Drum & Bass tunes today. Picking up the sounds of late nineties Reinforced Records, pre and post millenium RAM and Virus Recordings, and the sober moments of Dillinja's Ghettostep, Martsman melts these influences into his own conception of Drum & Bass. His drum programming is playful, bouncy and rolling, the basslines are clear and punchy and the atmospheres loaded with epic deepness.Flipping "Kontamin" there's a remix of Deo & Matik´sv"Boulder
", where Martsman picks up the square-edged sounds of the original and turns it into a futuristic, bitcrushed Bleep-hop theme for 2007. Both tracks create an eclectic vibe on the floor, but are just as suitable for a home listening pleasure on the stereo.

Future Engineers - "Night Trails" (PBK remix) The first track of the 12" side sees Camino Blue founders PBK remixing label regulars and renound sonic experimentalists Future Engineers to create a track brimming with atmosphere and intrigue. SAN023 Between Two Worlds / Heat Surge - Telmo A / Simon V Santorin 12" Vinyl
Something rather strange is going on in the city. Kids get back into the house and hide behind closed curtains. A lonely car passes through the city centre, driving fast like the driver's life depends on it. The birds have stopped singing their songs - carefully listening to the whispering wind. You can smell there's something in the air, but all you can see is a big shadow lurking over the city. If it just wouldn't be so damn hot. The earth seems to tremble with every bead of sweat dropping on the ground... Heat Surge. Torn Between Two Worlds, faced with revolution in heart, mind and soul. Cought between one and another, the heart misses one and longs for the other. Is there no way reconciling both? Letting go - the time to revolt is now !!! “Between Two Worlds” is being caned by Grooverider , he played this tune several times on his BBC show . “Heat Surge” was featured on the Knowledge Mix CD Issue 92 mixed by Syncopix.

PROMOS (2 WEEKS)
SOULR028 Archive 2 - Marcus Intalex / The Invaderz Soul:R 10" Vinyl
Finished copy 10” Vinyl. ‘Lowlife’ is Marcus Intalex at is hypnotic best. With his sweeping future funk any listener will fall helpless into the groove. Even the stiffest of hips will sway and the most sceptical heads will nod along as the ravishing low-slung bass, takes over.  On the other side Soul:r debutantes The Invaderz deliver big time with the sublime ‘You Bring Me’ So much more than just a Saturday night shakedown. The weighty mix of rough beats, shuddering bass and gorgeous vocals slide sweetly over a euphoric swirling background. Built for big sound systems and discerning listeners.

HZN023 Star Ship / Future Thinking - Spirit Horizons Music 12" Vinyl
Finished Copy Promo. For his debut 12” on Horizons Music, Spirit brings a hint of how diverse his palette of sounds can truly be.  “Starship” evokes a feeling of traveling through the cosmos, with a bevy of keys washing atop a tightly-laid drumbeat. Beautiful piano and a solid melody are brought to the forefront, making way for the warm bassline – a truly lush ride that should fit alongside your latest soulful selections. “Future Thinking” is a different monster entirely: while the drums stay crisp and tight, Spirit’s dark dub feel resounds throughout this banger. Menacing soundscapes lace the intro, which delves pretty quickly into the thumping bassline. A crisp breakbeat provides a neck snapping fury to this track, making it the perfect yang to the ying of "Starship".

FF010 Lovesexpain - Mayhem & Phace / State Of Mind Full Force Recordings 12" Vinyl
Finished Copy Promo. Mayhem & Phace - Love Sex Pain A space age intro with an aggressively uncomfortable atmosphere starts things off, setting the stage for what will become a bad trip to the moon. When that skin crawling mid line drops, the descent into the filth begins. Hard, relentless pressure, face grinding beats and twisted ideas, rock the speaker box til only splinters and cones are left. As the grime chugs along, knock off warped notes concuss reality and remind you of your twisted journey (just in case you might have forgotten) Take it down to the break, the pause, the melt. The brain is on overload and the sludge begins to drain. But not for long, as you're forcefully thrust head first into the descent again. Like a scum tunnel that gets deeper and darker, straight to the core of the gutter, this is one punishing filth cleansing you'll wish to take again! State Of Mind - Quantum Leap Twisted horns lay the foundation with a dream to enter into madness. Over time and creation, a steady influx in basslines, punchy stabs and funky midlines band together as the mighty machine assembles. The drop is almost concealed within the build, a careful constructive design, making the mix ride smooth and effortlessly into the break, which is a "break down" in itself. Seems the machine malfunctioned and deconstructed it's own circuitry. With time ticking and the unknown lurking, your attention is then surprisingly commanded. The horns revive, summoning life to the beast as the Resurrection initiates. Ultimately setting the stage for jump to begin again, as the drums key the lift, the the funk snaps back and rolls on. Forward, into the future.

MEDIC006 My Detroit - Craggz Med School 12" Vinyl
Finished copy Promo. The sixth Med School installment has arrived courtesy of Newcastle's own Craggz. Believe it or not it’s Craggz’s first solo 12” and, true to form, the Product/Valve man has delivered two bass-heavy club smashers.“My Detroit” is a phat slice of future funk that does exactly what it says on the tin. Harking back to finest electronic music to come out of the Motor City with it's bleepy techno influences. 8 bit pads lull you into a false sense of security before the blistering drop knocks the dancefloor sideways. Shuffling percussion and subliminal sci-fi detailing keep everything rolling, but it's the skull-crushing low end which propels the track forward and will have your eyeballs shaking in their sockets. Filling out the rest of the prescription is “Flick The Switch” which keeps the temperature soaring with an even more minimal outlook. Hypnotising synth stabs are peppered over crushing beats which poke their heads through another monster bassline. Yet again the Valve style mixdown is in full and deadly effect. Needless to say these tunes have already found favour with the big dogs - the likes of DJ marky and DJ flight already battering them hard. Look out for the newlook medschool housebag – destined to make the label even more collectable, this release will no doubt be a massive hit with the ever increasing fan base and promises to shake bassbins all over the globe!! A double pack is to follow, so keep it locked for more info from the Med School
sugery.

Continues the Spartan theme, but with a far darker tone, rolling bass-line and melody that has the same tones as that Minimal Tech sound Dubstep is so often being compared to now.

STRK002 Bounce - Starkey Starksound Recordings 12" Vinyl
THIS IS REALLY GOOD DON’T SLEEP! Starkey is the mayor of Starkville, which is entirely inhabited by Starkbots, the robots he created. Starkbots are fuelled by gritty beats with melodic tendencies. Here on the second release for new label Starksound, Starkey, fresh from a summer of fine releases and remixes for Dead Homies and Lo Dubs, delivers two slabs of bass heaviness. ‘Bounce’ features an infectious vocal you can’t help following, and all driven by a truly charged dubstep bassline impossible to resist. ‘Prism’ is an original take on all things halfstep, pounding out its beat and bass and layered with a deep, sublime, electronic hook. PJ Geissinger has been performing as Starkey for only three years and has already garnered attention for his energetic live performances and original sound. Starkey is co-owner of Slit Jockey Records, a member of Philadelphia’s Seclusiasis music/design group and NYC’s Trouble & Bass Crew alongside Drop The Lime and Mathhead. In 2005, Starkey won both the North American and Mid- Atlantic Laptop Battles, in Seattle and Washington D.C. respectively. He was also featured in the Philadelphia City Paper’s 2005 Spring Music Issue and awarded the Choice Award for “Best UK Grime DJ in Philly” along with Dev79. In March 2006, London label, Werk Discs, released Starkey’s debut solo release, “Local Headlines” (on 12” vinyl). In 2006, Starkey also released a remix on Peaceoff/ Ruff out of France
. Look for further Starkey releases in 2007 from Terminal Dusk, and Trouble & Bass.

BI001 Chat Bout - Bad Influence Bad Influence 12" Vinyl
Kromestar and F1 here deliver their debut material under the combined Bad Influence moniker, and it's a bashment killer firmly rooted in the digital dub of mid-80's New York and Jamaica given the dubstep treatment. It's all in the sound-palette, with "Chat Bout" opening the twelve with a brilliantly plastic feel that perfectly recreates the spirit of 1986. "Nuttin Much", meanwhile, employs some detuned synths for a similarly acrylic delivery, while EP closer "Spaced Out" is just totally ace - wonky synths and a sub-asian flavour making for quite possibly the first (and only) dubstep track you'll ever hear with New Romantic production values attached. Ace.

MILF001 Moments In Love (Caspa Remix) - Unknown Unknown 12" Vinyl
Ultra limited On sided white label remix of Art Of Noise's "Moment's In Love" by one of the rising stars in the dubstep scene, Caspa. He's taken the instantly recognisable Memory of the tune and basically just added a fat bassline and a killer drum beat. Simple but very very effective. One of the most hyped dubstep whites lately.
