Shipments were a little screwy again this week.  Everything that arrived new in stock is listed at http://www.poo-bas.com/releases/main.htm and it is a pretty good list (scroll to the bottom).

The 6/23 preliminary items arrived Wednesday, as expected along with this week's nu-urban.

The 6/30 preliminary items will arrive THURSDAY JULY 5.

This again means you can save %10 if you use our main weekend order list at http://www.poo-bas.com/pre-order/07-05-07.htm and all of the 6/30 preliminary items (and a lot of unlisted promos) are included on that list.  Requirement is that you pick up this week, that you pay cash (credit card is ok if you pick up on Thursday), and that requests are back SUNDAY by NOON (no later on this list).

Please try to use the pre-order & preliminary lists this week so we know who isn't going to be here to shop this week due to Family Affair ;)

Below is the Drum & Bass pre-liminary list for Saturday July 7 (everything should be %100 this week) so email your requests to doug AT poo-bas.com .

Request are due back Sunday July 1 by Noon.  If you miss the deadline, we can always try, but this definately makes it easier and more secure.

SRD potential releases are never exactly what will be released worldwide - so I am not going to list them.  If you really want to know then stop up on Saturday after 2pm and I'll have them ready for Brent to go over with you.

ST Holdings & Nu-Urban sound samples are at the bottom.   Promos are highlighted in yellow.

As a reminder, this order list is posted weekly at http://www.poo-bas.com/pre-order if you didn't get an email.

See you Saturday!

Thanks,

Doug

PRCSN28 Beneath The Mask (Ill Skillz Remix) - Makai 12" Vinyl

It’s been almost ten years since we released our most infamous track to date, “Beneath the Mask”. In a genre with a short attention span like Drum&Bass this is a very long time. But it still happens regularly that when I DJ, somebody comes up to me and asks if I could play “that tune with the Chinese vocals”. And even though those vocals are not Chinese but sung in ancient Japanese language and harmonized in the style of Bulgarian folk music, it’s obvious what they want to hear. After selling 5-digits figures, we stopped repressing “Beneath the Mask” in 2002 to close this chapter in our musical history. Ever since then the prices for used copies on eBay have skyrocketed, and I recently saw an auction closing at 140,- Dollars! Wish I kept a couple of copies myself; instead all that I have left is the original testpressing… One thing that was obvious to us was that we never wanted to remix this track because we didn’t see how we could improve it- if it ain’t broken why fix it? When Ill.Skillz approached us in 2006 and said that they’d be interested to try their luck at remixing “Beneath the Mask”, we figured that they might be just the right persons to get the job done since they just completed a string of “classics”-remixes such as “Sicknote” by Ed Rush & Optical. Around the same time we found an unlabeled old DAT-tape, which we wanted to give a quick listen before throwing it in the trash. To our surprise we found an unreleased, alternate mix of “Beneath the Mask” from the very same session in 1997. It features the full vocal and a new C-part which was not included in the vinyl version. So now we had two very good reasons to release this single: Ill.Skillz cutting-edge remix and the vintage flavour of the alternate mix. This release is special to us in another way as well: after 28 vinyl singles and 3 CD albums we are closing shop and discontinuing our label “Precision Breakbeat Research”. This is due to the fact that we started it primarily as a vehicle to release our own music, but after being signed to V Recordings we feel it’s time to concentrate our efforts. However, it’s a good thing to leave on a high note and we want to thank all the people who were part of the PRCSN experience in the past decade: you know who you are!

HEDGE021 The Suite - Syncopix / Dub Tao 12" Vinyl

Germany's most respected D 'n' B label is back with a homegrown showcase!First up is Hamburg's own, Syncopix, making his Hard:  edged 12” debut after a string of successful releases on Hospital and an exclusive track on the recent “Watergate Files” Compilation on hard:edged. You can immediately see he is no stranger to the funkand proves it with his effortless combination of female vocal snippets, soothing male vocals chants, latin guitar solos and clever and intricate layering of a myriad ofatmospheric samples. All of which when coupled with a melodic synth line and rolling neuro funk bass line ensures a quality piece of dance floor D 'n' B. The BSide is anything but B-grade as newcomers Dub Tao go firing off on all cylinders with a rolling andrunning slab of fully charged funk!  This one comes in with a shuffling and bubbling break that instantly adds and element of anticipation with any tunes it is mixed with.  The breakdown and throbbing low end sustain its own identity as a serious, "rump shaker". This is the epitome of the Hard:edged sound: Uncompromising fun inspired and evoking beats. DJ support : Flight, Bailey, Logistics, Nu:Tone, L.E., A.I., Bukem, D.Kay & Lee, Mathematics, Kabuki, Syncopix, Xplorer, Tactile, Vicious Circle, Tomahawk & many more

SOR009 Runaway - Ste. Luce 12" Vinyl

After the very successfull release of ‘First Try/ PrayerVIP’ on SOR 08 (which was not only graced on DJ Baileys ATM Mix CD but received very good feedback from all different angles), Ste.Luce strike back with 2 massive tunes called ‘Runaway’ & ‘Dancehalltwist’.  Similar to his latest releases on Defunked or upcoming stuff on labels such as 3rdAngle, the formula is quite simple but highly effective: deep & soaring strings, morphing basslines , pushin drums and a heavysubbass are the elements to keep on the dancers shakin & sweating. ‘Dancehall Twist’ aka „the dirty dub roller“ comes more than correct with his lovely rolling Conga breaks, some phat ‘Horns’ and infectious Ragga vocal hook – pure & simple ! DJ support by Marcus intalex (not only on his SoulutionRadio show), Martyn, DJ Addiction, Mosus, Kool FM, Ash Attack, Henree, Syncopix, and many more …

BLUS006 Jade Sunrise - Chino / Submorphics 12" Vinyl

The last few years have been a turning point in the more chilled out styles of drum 'n bass. Many new labels are being formed, and some would begin to question where to start looking for the most eclectic music. Rising in the shadows of a long list of liquid legends including Defunked, Renegade Recordings, Hospital, Creative Source andGood Looking, Blu Saphir rolls through with its' second release of 2007, featuring Chino and Submorphics. BLUS006: A. Chino – Jade Sunrise B. Submorphics - RevisionsJade Sunrise: I can't start this review without first stating how magnificent this tuneis. Beautiful arpeggios sweep forward from the intro, but it's not long at all before the bassline drops. Dance floor vibes and a sexy sax line emphasize the top before an even more spine-tingling midi melody puts this one over. The mid-point of the tune sees a attractively sung vocal bridge before section A comes back around.  There's nothingelse to say about this one. It's definitely one of the best Blu Saphir has put out since day one! Revisions: Fix your televisions! Submorphics coming through your speakers!Starting out a bit harder than the previous, Submorphics do a great job in sustaining the energy created on side A. A man singing about his girl “standing by him” repeats throughout the tune amidst vastly filtered atmospherics. A nicely picked bassline accompanies the latter, as the tune comes around full circle to finish out number 6 to the end. Both tunes are being played by: High Contrast, Mace, Redeyes, Greg Packer, Makoto and many more.

BJ001 Monsters - Emalkay / After Dark 12" Vinyl

Boka records first, only and official sub label – boka juniors main aim is to continue the output of grimey low-end music. The first release sees two tracks that need to be played loud for best possible results! On one side is ‘monsters’ – a track from the next level producer - the morphic man himself – emalkay. The track rolls on a very agreesive edge with powerful beats, solid bass and many gunshots. With his tracks being supported from the likes of mary anne hobbs, plastician, dj distance, zane lowe to freq nasty, and with a debut album coming out in autumn 2007 on boka, this birmingham bass man is one serious talent. On the flip is ‘overshine’ – a track from a new addition to the boka family - After Dark. With previous releases on labels urban grafitti and 3.5 records, after dark consist of four heads – phazeman, dj skeeze, dj shy and toxin. ‘overshine’ is grimey, low and next level. Look out for more beats by these boys soon.

BRK005DUB Zalim Maar Daala - Geoim Feat: Khalid 12" Vinyl

Berkane Sol label returns with a unique 12” created by Nottingham-based producer Geiom. An on-going collaboration between Geiom and Pakistani vocalist Khalid has now produced a bunch of classic hybrid songs, of which this is the first on release. A shared love of classic era Indian film soundtracks from the 60’s and 70’s has led to this project – anyone who enjoys the music of legends like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle or Mohammed Rahfi will understand this record straight away. Epic vocals float over the top of dubstep style drum patterns spiced with some hot tabla licks. Live harmonium parts and flute lines meet with sitar fx and some heavyweight bass action to create a truly psychedelic and distinctive track that defies genre. The instro on the flip gives the listener more space to absorb the musical sections and the acapella is a quirky Dj tool – sounds big mixed over grime instrumentals in particular. There have been several asian-influenced dubstep tunes made over the past year, but this is the real thing – no samples were harmed during the making of this record !This song has already had a full month of Radio 1 airplay courtesy of the Bobby Friction and Nihal show and support from Skream on his Rinse FM show. The Skull Disco team of Shackleton and Appleblim are big fans of this tune and also Mixmag who have reviewed it for the next issue.

Can it be true? The most popular period of the Ohm Resistance History, the Ohmwreckers series, is BACK on wax. The focus is the DJ, the dancefloor, and using the medium to create a feel. The new sound of OHM RESISTANCE is STREET – London to Brooklyn to LA powerhouse street drum n bass sound – fresh for the party, hot in the dance, and innovative material reflecting where the producers come from, with the artists themselves making the label graphics. First and easiest off – this is HUGE HUGE HUGE. "Fuck You!" is a London tribute to US Hip Hop first and foremost, but it is pulled off without the cheese factor that destroys most music of that nature. A dope intro that's instantly mixable smashes down into a ech-influenced roller. The huge point to this tune – the blatant sampling of California Love – will have every dancefloor fired the fuck up and ready for it. Nothing takes the amen back from the territory of the chop shop and gears it up with the punk street feel.  After the eerie confession speech of Patrick Bateman, the drop charges full force, taking you on a roller coaster with dive bass drops. The second half changes it up, pulling an ascendant bass line in to seal the deal and keep it moving.

CHR 035 : MONOMAN : DIRTY GAMES : (G DUB DIRTY REMIX / G DUB HARD REMIX) : CHRONIC

DJ Die’s classic Dirty Games, is given a dirty remixing by the hottest production duo on the scene at present, Generation Dub. Coming in two parts, both have been getting equally rinsed. Part 1, has an intro that headz will instantly recognise, using the sounds and vocals Die used so well, before the almost scary and distinctive bass sound the G Dubs have coined bounces through the track. Part 2 doesn't hold back, relentless fast paced beats and a low level bassline twanging throughout this tune puts you in another zone. DJ Support from JJ Frost, Bryan G, Grooverider, Roni Size, Nicky Blackmarket, Die & Clipz, TC, Distorted Minds, Hype, Ruffstuff, Generation Dub, Devise, Mickey Finn, Lemon D, Bailey, L Double... and pretty much anybody else you can think of.

JACKED 004 : UNKNOWN ARTIST : WAKE UP / BREATHE : JACKED

Badly behaved bootleg bizzo once again on the Jacked imprint, both ‘Wake Up’ and ‘Breathe’ are chewed up in the Drum & Bass remix mouth of doom, then spat out with ferocious force, spraying blood, guts and breakbeats all over the wall. The Prodigy have been bootlegged and remixed many times over the years, but the D&B mix of ‘Wake Up’ lives up to the original in fine style, while the raw Hip Hop power of ‘Breathe’ is taken over with double time drums and a dirty, distorted bass. Filth on a stick!
