HERVE
CHEAP THRILLS (DUBSIDED) 12  - 107643
Herve is a fucking force. His releases and remixes have all been furiously funky, edgy, underground and most importantly ass shaking. Here the force delivers three mind blowing rump shaking numbers starting with the cheeky 'Cheap Thrills' which borrows a snippet from Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' and works it thoroughly through his jacking tracky off kilter beats and grooves. Next up 'Lets Get Dirty' does just that with a great hip hop sample laced into an off the wall hard hitting funked up fidget house explosion. Last but not least is 'Rocky Raver' that unsuprisingly grabs some excellent old rave samples and demolishes them in a hard hitting production that breaks into the guitars from Rocky and only gets wilder and better. The editing and production on this is intense and if you're a fan of the French Nu Rave sound ala Sebastian this one's a must!(DSD015)HOUSE-11/05/07-UK

RIVA STARR
BUBBLE (DIRTYBIRD) 12  - 107115
Riva Starr follows up his debut house ep on Jesse Rose's Frontroom Recordings imprint with a killer for the red hot Dirtybird label. If you're a fan of Switch styled tech funk, 'Bubble' is an absolute must. It features booming warped filthy bass, edgy beats, grungy synth grooves that start screaming and shaking wildly during the killer breakdown / build up. This sounds like what a collaboration between Switch and Basement Jaxx might sound like. 'WTF' on the flip is a favorite of Claude Vonstroke who has included it on his 'At The Controls' mix compilation, a realy jacking slice of raw powerful funk. Rounding off the ep is 'Baddassbass' which as the title suggests has a truly killer warped bassline and tough funky drums.(DB014)HOUSE-11/05/07-GE

MINION *LLORCA* (FREERANGE) 12  - 107644
'Minion' has a superb sound that will work as well in the big clubs as it will do on deeper floors. It has a sublime hypnotic vibe with a vocal sample ripped from Phuture Scope's "What Is House Music" and grooves that sound like a mixture of Lil Louis and Ame. BURGER/VOIGT
BRING TRANCE BACK (KOMAPKT) 12  - 107695
J Burger and Wolfgang Voigt (aka Mike Ink) team up for a rhythm based beater thats unmistakably Kompakt. Loop driven basslines with stiff percussion and guitar(?) washes to complete the groove. The title is a tad misleading, as we really wouldnt call this Trance. Well, at least not modern day trance. On the flip, things get a bit dirtier and a little more driven, but still maintaining a rhythm rooted in tech house. Also has kind of an Animal Republic or Mike Ink LIVEEVIL feel to it, for those who rememeber that era of German stuff.(KOMPAKT163)TECH HOUSE-11/05/07-GE

JOHN TEJADA & ARIAN LEVISTE
LIVE 07 (PALETTE) 12  - 107714
When we saw the title of this EP was "Live 07", we got shivers thinking about the Jeff Mills "purposemaker live" 12" that nobody cared about. When we hard the record, we completely changed our tune. 3 excerpts here from live shows that John & Arian have been doing this year. All have solid structure and deeper rhythms, like you would expect from the duo. So, dont let the title scare you. These arent just excerpts of live shows. BREITBARTH/SWAT SQUAD/BODINE
PT 2 TEN YEARS OF TREIBSTOFF (TREIBSTOFF) 12  - 107703
Here is part 2 of the super sick Ten Years of Treibstoff compilation. All 3 of these are really great, by the way. But, here for the second outing, we have Swat Squad, Rene Breitbarth, Alecs Marta and Todd Bodine. All 4 cuts have that almost trademark Treibstoff sounds. Stiff and direct beats, with plenty of bass rhythm and percussive elements. The exception here is the Todd Bodine cut, which is a tad more acidic than usual but still fits right in there. Sick tech house for dark dark rooms.(TREIB075)TECH HOUSE-11/05/07-GE

ADULTNAPPER
JUROR NO 9 *GAISER* (AUDIOMATIQUE) 12  - 107704

DIOSA EP (BEASONE) 12  - 107706
Shlomi Aber with something HUGE! Deep heavy rhythms perfect for suilding up the night and letting it loose all at the same time. Lots of VERY tense acidic things going on that grow and grow til the crowd has to scream for more! One of the better Josh Wink infulenced cuts we're heard in a loooong time. On the flip, it's another original but it's almost a different take on side A. Almost like if MR G were to remix it or something. But that might be just because the 909 persussion work feels straight out of the Advent days. Either way, you shouldnt pass this up! It's a nice lil secret gem for this week.(BAO005)TECH HOUSE-11/05/07-GE

WAHOO
DAMN *FREEFORM 5* (FINE) 12  - 107709

Deep dirty driving hypnotic house action very much on the Poker Flat / Steve Bug tip. Remix comes via Dirtybird's man of the moment Worthy who adds more swing thanks to metalic percussion, a plodding bassline and a reduced vibe. This mix is pure filth and has a wicked John Tejada / Palette vibe. But wait, there's more. CAMAROS GANG
FUERZA MAJOR *ORANGE VINYL* (RADIUS) 12  - 107636
Radius unleashes part 3 of its "Best of Superradio" series treating us with yet another timeless classic. 'Fuerza Major' by Camaro's Gang, one of the more edgy italo disco groups, is one of those tracks that effortlessly show us how those mad Italians went on to influence 80's pop music for years to come. 'Fuerza Major' has all the essential elements, typical vintage bassline, cheeky pop melodies, catchy and vague "I met this girl in a New York discotheque" vocals straight from a melancholic heart. It's simply joyfull nostalgia from 1985.(RAD017)ELECTRO DISCO-11/05/07-BE

Maual records delivers us another solid offering of tech house stuff geared towards the peak hours, or open air tracks as theyve been know in todays world. And while it may be getting a bit late in the year to release such a thing, we are quite sure it works indoors as well. Think Gui Borrato or some of the stuff from Regular records and you would be spot on.(MANUAL13)TECH HOUSE-11/05/07-GE

GUILLAUME & COUTU DUMONTS
FACE A L'EST *2X12* (MUSIQUE RISQUEE) DP  - 107698
We've been looking forward to this one for a while now. Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts give us a full length on one of our favorite labels, Musique Risquee. We could give you a track by track analysis, but its so good that the review would take up the whole page, so we will spare you that read. What we will say is that the whole thing is made up of rhythm based tech house that if you like one, you like em all. Simple changes with tight grooves and crystal clear productions. You can see why Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano are freaking out about this guy right now.(RISQUEE15)HOUSE-11/05/07-GE

MAFDE EP (MINIBAR) 12  - 107713
Your Mad Friend is one of your annonymous types. We really cant tell who this might be! The best way we could decribe is like if Pantytec and Cabanne were stuck in a studio and had a blood orgy! BUTTERFLY BEE *ANDOMAT 3000* (FOUR TWENTY) 12  - 107726
You've heard Two Armadillos beautifully deep productions on the Dessous imprint before and now take their outfit to the Four Twenty label. 'Butterfly Bee' is as deep as they come, reminiscent of early Llorca or Aqua Bassino gear on the F Communications imprint with gorgeous melodies, brooding beats and moody basslines. Cadenza's Andomat 2000 & Jan provide the remix, a more shuffling and energetic deep house rub.(FOUR035)HOUSE-11/05/07-GE

Trapez/Einmalens recording artist Remute makes his debut on the Perc Trax label with 'Hamburger Doom'. His original mix is a raucous, noisy and quite funky jerky house cut that features incredible sound design, nasty effects and a jacking Poker Flat vibe. UNDERWORLD
OBLIVION WITH BELLS *DLP* (DIFFERENT) DP  - 107335
GATEFOLD DOUBLE ALBUM. Underworld are back with a soulful, contemplative, yet typically uplifting album. The single and album opener 'Crocodile' is simply as good as they get. 'Ring Road' sees Hyde off on one of his famous psycho-geographic jaunts (this one around Romford, on St George’s Day), marking time with his compelling word rhythms, while the treated found sounds in 'Cuddle Bunny Vs Celtic Villages' conjures a decidedly non-cuddly, almost menacing atmosphere. The lusciusly lowering 'Beautiful Burnout' features Underworld's trademark synth swathes and swells with a somehow doomed beauty, but the minimal 'Holding The Moth' boasts such a bass-y spring it practically bounces clean off the vinyl. 'Glam Bucket' meanwhile, shimmers like a sheet of liquid crystal and 'Best Mamgu Ever' offers a sliver of downbeat, Balearic bliss at the album’s close.(4511081012)HOUSE-10/29/07-BE

First up is Lil Mark who turns in a shuffling gem of a mix with acid power and much funk in the trunk. Julien Jabre took a long break after his mega smash 'Swimming Places' which eventually landed on Defected to critical acclaim. Here Julien delivers the second offering on Solid State of House's newly formed sublabel Back To Fundamental and shows off a bit of the sound that has influenced his productions. 'The Stock' pays hommage to a few of Julien's heroes, Mr Fingers and Lil Louis. APHROMASH (LOUNGIN) 12  - 107453
MusicLoveLife are Phil Asher and Mark De Clive Lowe and here give their take on the hot Fidget house sound with 'Aphromash'. We start with the 'Tech' mix which features a filthy bassline, deep dirty jacking beats, tripped effected sounds and slick techy stabs that wind throughout the funked out fidget grooves. The main mix has a sweet vocal hook and more Switch styled bass, backed by that wicked deeply effected sound. The third mix features even more of the sweet vocal part and has been getting major attention from Dave Taylor, Sinden and of course label head honcho Jesse Rose.(LGN013)HOUSE-10/29/07-UK

"Defbrows" is a raunchy, bumping slice of dirty underground house with a filthy female vocal part, cool reversed synth stabs, jacking beats and wild organ sounds & effects. Jacob London's mix has a frantic and quite funky vibe with an off the wall bassline, shuffling beats and that great cut and paste jerky action that we love so much about his productions. Holmes & Waltz also provide a mix, a deeper more sublime rub.(BST003)HOUSE-10/22/07-UK

First in a series of 2 releases this week on Prinz Thomas' Full Pup label from Randaberg Ego Ensemble. This one has a bassline that cuts pretty damn deep, with nice added guitar work that doesnt really get in the way. Simple, rhythmic, and drum heavy. Oliver Ho returns to Klang under his Raudive moniker for a peak hour party jam designed to rock the entire party. Lots of oscilating sounds and a really dirty bassline stab. The beats switch back & forth from 4/4 to a bit broken, and theres a vocal thing going on very slightly and never overused. SALT PEANUTS *PHEEK* (FRANKIE) 12  - 107539
Make way for Mossa on this one, folks! Our man from Montreal just stepped his game up BIG time! A perfect outing for Frankie records here. Shuffly and acidic, but not in the 303 sense. Abrasive, but still quite smooth. All the cuts contained within are party jams here. Nothing *too* over the top, and all of them useful for the head as well as completely ROCKING the floor. 4 cuts here: 3 from Mossa, and one KICK ASS remix from Pheek. Following the recent success of the full length of his Black Beauty LP (produced as Dapayk & Padberg), Dapayk comes to us with another solo outing for the Orac label. And hot DAMN does it kick ass! The lead cut starts off with about 2 mins of ambeint intro noice, then slamming into a klunky beat heavy rhythm that grows and grown with a crazy about of strange additions of basslines and edits. This one turns into a complete minimal party bomb right before your ears! On the flipside, 2 more cuts that hold their own in being dancefloor cuts, while also sounding very fresh and original. EP 1 SIMPLE SOUNDS (SIMPLE) 12  - 107544
Really nice deep tech house stuff here from Will Saul on the Simple label. Blissful and deep are 2 words that come to mind with this one. Think of the Manuel Tur from a few weeks ago on Compost Black Label, then add deep strings and youre there. The B-side for this one belongs to Wahoo, making Will's cut "Mbira" into a deeeep damn near tribal territory. Ala Ferrer/Sydenham or even Ame in their more epic times. Alphahouse continues to release quality music, irrespective of style, genre, or trends. We're honored that Cadenza co-founder Philippe Quenum joins the fray with this super-fresh two tracker straight out of his Geneva studio and into clubs, after parties, and living rooms all over the world."Agbaja" is a Panorama Bar special. It's big, freaky, dark, and loud. It's made for places that don't stop. It's for that moment when the party is about to lose control. This is Quenum's darker side. "A Day in Mumbai" is one of those tracks that defies description. Is it house? Is it techno? To us, it's moderrn minimal music with personality. It's soulful. It's percussive. It's loose. It's quirky. Most tellingly, it's highly personal look into the roots of a very talented African-born,French-raised musician. Huge trance anthem from rising star Sean Tyas whose sound is starting to become more refined and mature. 'One More Night Out' features rugged beats, hard edged synths and pure peak time dancefloor power. A touch of filtering, and nasty effects combine with the uplifting melodies to create some huge momentous moments.(ASOT086)TRANCE-10/29/07-NL

GENIX
PHUSED (RESET) 12  - 107333
Genix's original is a chunky, driving tech-trancer in the Spinnin style of things. It features a strong emotive breakdown that has much dancefloor impact. Marcus Schossow mix is one of those reworkings that outdoes the original, taking it deep into demented schizophrenic waters that are deep, melodic and quite techy with pads that flashback to Jam & Spoon's 'Stella' and multiple hypnotizing riffs riding on top of that!(RS029)PROGRESSIVE-10/22/07-NL

KLEMS
GATED SKY / SCALING THE CLIFF (CLUB ELITE) 12  - 107598
Big and funky progressive gear with a hard edged Lexicon Avenue meets electro-tech vibe on 'Gated Sky'. The bass on this one is moody, sustained and quite dirty with epic strings, rugged beats and deep synths & effects. 'Scaling The Cliff' is a more melodic number that keeps it dirty and electro-fied yet deeper and more emotional.(CLEL021)ELECTRO HOUSE-10/29/07-NL

JOCHEN MILLER
ALIVE (HIGH CONTRAST) 12  - 107332
Tough and funky progressive tech trance from High Contrast regular Jochen Miller. The original mix has a tasty touch of acid thrown in the sauce along with driving tough funky beats. The flipside features a 'Dub' which has more of an electro edge which has already found favor with the likes of Flash Brothers and Johan Gielen.(HCR044)PROGRESSIVE-10/22/07-NL

TOCS
2 *SCOT PROJECT* (DRUCK) 12  - 107126
Scot Project turn in two devistating mixes here for the hard trance fans out there perfectly mixing euphoric melodies with aggressive beats.(DRUCK019)HARD DANCE-10/15/07-GE

LANK
RIVERVIEW (BOZ BOZ) 12  - 107354
Very cool funky progg gear from Lank who makes his second landing on Quivver's Boz Boz imprint. 'Riverview' features a tough and funky Peace Division type vibe with a more ethereal sound thanks to some heavenly pads. 'Dumbness' on the flip has a similar tough progressive vibe with excellent sound design, dark bass and more ethereal synths floating over the rugged grooves.(BOZ021)PROGRESSIVE-10/22/07-UK

CINEMA BIZARRE
LOVE SONGS *KYAU & ALBERT* (ISLAND) 12  - 107120
The Northern Lite remix of 'Love Songs' is a cranking slice pf electro-tech meets progressive house with a hot Underworld vibe in there too. Anjunabeats Kyau & Albert provide a more euphoric trance episode and rounding off the ep is Iam X's mix, an indie flavored rub.(ISL1748384)TRANCE-10/18/07-GE

LOST WITNESS
NOT COMING DOWN (CAPTIVATE) 12  - 107474
The highly successful UK trance outfit, responsible for just a few anthems including 'Happiness Happening' and 'Red Sun Rising' returns with more epic floorfilling dancefloor action with 'Not Coming Down'. It features a lovely vocal from newcomer Tiff Lacey who you've heard before on Tiesto & ATB's productions. The remixes for this release are by San & Sebastian Moore, who give the track a more underground feel while Sequentia give it the full trance anthem approach.(CAP005)TRANCE-10/29/07-NL

ASHBURY & HAIGHT
GOULASH (BASSWALK) 12  - 106854
Building electro-prog houser from A&H here on the Basswalk label. The original is a bass-heavy dark workout with echoing sounds, vocoder touches and tuff pumping beats that deliver a real kick in the ass. The remix comes from Liam Shachar, another dazzling performance from this guy to be honest, taking the original's vibe even deeper and druggier with a sound that will appeal to fans of Tenaglia, Saw etc.(BW024)ELECTRO HOUSE- 9/21/07-US
