MISC HOUSE
GM020 : Natural Rhythm
OverNighter EP – Guesthouse Music – US

Break out the birthday cake and candles, Guesthouse Music turns 20 this Month! The SF-Based juggernaut of a label continues to plow ahead, barely taking a breath in between amazing releases, consistently knocking them out of the park with consistent dance floor bangers. The 20th Release, Natural Rhythms “Over Nighter EP” is no exception to that rule, and the fans of the new school sound will be scrambling to get this record on the decks and out onto the sound systems big and small alike. With a little something for everyone, this four-tracker is yet another shining example of label boss Dj Mes's A&R prowess and Natural Rhythm's consistent and unrivaled talent in the studio. Fans of Thomas and Pete’s work will be happy to see them reunited on this record, jackin things up on the A-side with “Saturdays” and “Wrap it up” and rocking it a little smoother on the B-Side with a kick ass vocal cut; “So Bad”. Rounding out the release is the Santino mix of “Vinyl Roots” as the B2. Receiving support from all the heavy hitters, Guesthouse has established itself as one of THE most important labels in the new school sound. Here’s to another 20 records!

TANGO055 : Blakkat
Job Satisfaction(The Remixes) – Tango Recordings – US

Blakkat’s “Job Satisfaction” originally came out on Tango in 2003, here we get a couple lovely remixes courtesy of Phil Weeks and Dj Buck. Phil’s remix is the standout for us, a funky reworking with dope bass, crowd noises, and of course that super catchy “Hit it from the front, Hit it from the back” vocal throughout. KILLER stuff, our favorite Phil Weeks cut in quite a while. On the flip Dj Bucks turns in a deep and druggy West Coast rendition that will definitely please fans of Doc Martin or Mid 90’s Wicked party grooves. Superb remix package from The Tango Crew.

DAE018 : Schmoov
Flash it Out EP – DAE Recordings – US

Schmoov! is a group we really shouldn't even need to be telling you about, but here goes. They've got two releases on the seminal Paper Recordings, numerous releases on Nottingham's DiY Discs, and a number of classic remixes. If that's not enough, they're the guys behind Winding Road, one of the hottest deep house labels of the moment. This EP is perfect for any time, but we know that summertime is the right time, so get ready! First up is A1, Hot Flash. It starts off swingin'(literally) and comes hard with a nice walking bassline. Then come the chords and a killer sax riff that really blow it up. Deepness that rocks.  Next up is Exchanges, a mid-tempo house number that just keeps coming. Built around a repeating vocal, this one will absolutely get things going when that analog bassline drops, and the massive build-up will really take it to the next level. A guaranteed mover. Flip this bad boy over for The Swirl:, a track that picks it back up and knocks it home. Lush keys, great percussion, and a lovely vocal sample: all the elements you need for a classic deep house jam. Last but certainly not least is Manuel Tur's take on The Swirl. Manuel has been seriously blowing up over the last two years with releases for labels such as Agave, So Sound, and recently the presitigious Freerange. He adds his unique touch to this track, keepin' it deep but giving it a jazzier feel with an additional key riff that builds very nicely. A quality remix that will work it out for sure.

HUDD012 : Dirty Kicks
Bang the Light EP – Hudd Traxx – US

JT Donaldson returns to his Dirty Kicks moniker with a wicked three tracker for Hudd Traxx. The title track "Bang The Lights" (which features frequent JT collaborator Cpen) brings some serious heat with its tech-tinged bass, fantastic chords, and great drum programming and is bound to be in the bags of all the biggest jocks. Flip it over for "Intimate Friends," a deeper cut with some great keys that would be perfect to play during a closing set. Rounding out the EP is "Spaced Out," a deep electro groover. Another winner for the excellent JT / Hudd Traxx combo.

DMG002 : The Midnight Circus
The House and Garage EP – Damaged Goods – UK
Quality combo of House and Garage here from this UK Imprint. The first 2 cuts on the A side are proper Vocal Garage cuts with massive dancefloor energy and a lot of cross genre appeal. Flip the wax over and you have the remixes from House Music mogul Joey Youngman and new comer Speed Jesus. The JY remix is the pick out of the lot with a killer vibe and a rolling bassline. Kick in the vocals from the original and you have an absolute beauty of a track that’ll surely be stuck in your head. Speed Jesus turns in a cool take on “Life”. With chunky beats, moody synths and a sweet little analog bassline, this final remix rounds out the whole EP nicely.

AGAVE0719 : Jazzy Eyewear vs Toka Project
All Spun Up - Agave – US

Jazzy Eyewear residing in the sunshine state has brought his attention to you through the potent So Sound label of which he devised some time back. He now makes his debut here on Agave with a potent three tracker with the help of his friends across the pond, To-Ka Project. The long side reflects the initial spark to this project for Agave’s A&R with the Spinning original. It’s simplistic rhythm and mono bass stabbing are the foundation of which this puncher is built. Subtle vocal riffs and clever edits roll through the entire track giving the floor many tidbits to shake to. The UK’s To-Ka Project takes command of the B1 with a jazzy edit of the Spinning title. Swinging bassline and shaker rhythm make this outside cut a real gem for the flip. It was a real toss up for team Agave as to where to place this remix as it truly works on either side. Jazzy makes his return on the inside for a new track all together. Temperature rising is a chilled out ringer with a delicate male vocal not heard too often. It calls out leaving the loop stuck in one’s ear for much time to come.

NT050 : Kelvin K
Blacklights and Bonfires EP – Nordic Trax  – CA

Luke McKeehan's top record label Nordic Trax releases this lush deep house bomb as their 50th. Kelvin K is well known for been at the top of the deep house game and this four tracker proves that. Each cut is quality but the A1 and B2 need special attention. Deep lazy bass and bumping grooves have fired this piece of wax into many top jocks bags. Dont sleep on this release.

A1: WANTING YOU

A2: SUNRISE

B1:  DIRTY BASEMENT

B2:  DRIVING HOME

GFR007 : Slum Science
Strikes EP – Goodfamily Recordings – US

Great EP from Hudd Traxx label owners Slum Science, this time on San Fran’s own Good Family."Right Up My Street" on A1, is indeed just that - tight percussion and a sweet rhodes riffs galore. "Strikes" on A2 features a short disco-guitar loop, heavy bass, and a definite Chicago sort of feeling. Flip over for "Taking It Back" on B1, another dance floor friendly track with cool piano and  vocal samples. Last but not least on B2 we have Jason Hodges taking up the remix duty  of "Taking It Back" which delivers exactly what's expected: tight drum programing, filtered vocal bits, and loads of dancefloor appeal

DUKE DUMONT
REGALITY EP (TURBO) 12  - 105739
Tiga once again does an amazing A&R job for his Turbo label with the addition of Duke Dumont to the roster. The lead track 'When I Hear Music' is a cheeky electro house weapon that samples Debbie Deb's 80's freestyle classic 'When I Hear Music', freaking it out right off the Richter scale with an array of spannered synth sounds, crazed edits and punchy Rekids-style beats. More tuff bounce to the ounce over on the flip, courtesy of 'Lean & Bounce' and the closer 'Final Level'.(TURBO041)ELECTRO HOUSE- 7/23/07-GE

FEDERICO FRANCHI
CREAM (CR2) 12  - 105658
Franchi's electro house weapon 'Cream' is already causing mass hysteria on the Ibizan dancefloors this summer as well as in the hands of everyone from Tiga to Pete Tong. Built around a chugging, bass-heavy groove that gets you instantly addicted and a filtered zipper-synth riff that keeps you on the hook and shaking yer hips like mad. The label seems to think that they've got the next Fedde Le Grande on their hands with this one and we might very well agree with 'em!(12C2062)ELECTRO HOUSE- 7/23/07-UK

RYALLO DJS FT MONICA BROOKE
SULTRY BLUE *DA SUNLOUNGE* (RYRALIO) 12  - 105683

RADIO SLAVE
SCREAMING HANDS *WINK/VITELLI* (REKIDS) 12  - 105721
This one is a long time coming, folks. Already been played by every big name known to man (Hawtin, Garnier, Holden, Coleman, Lawler, etc), the Wink remix of Radio Slave's "Screaming Hands" sees the light of day! If you arent already on board, the track is a monster! The original appeared on the "No Sleep" 12"s from late last year, and was huge. Wink's version is even a higher calibre than we are used to out of him, meaning he outdoes himself! A slow builder with losts of twists and turns and exploding FX bursts all around. It's the kind of record that even if someone just started DJing like yesterday, it would still annihilate the dancefloor. Flip it over for Vitelli's remix and you have a deeper neo-trance version. Nice and bubbly, with some deeper synths going on. Also contains a little "Screamapella" with the feedback noise that makes up the prominant part of the track all by itself.(REKIDS016)ELECTRO HOUSE- 7/23/07-UK

JUSTICE
DANCE *MSTRKRFT/BRAXE* (ED BANGERS / BECAU) 12  - 105744

MSTRKRFT also provide a remix on this plate along with a live mix and a remix from Jackson.(BEC5772130)NU RAVE- 7/23/07-FR

Shocking Pinks are from New Zealand and revolve around the very talented Nick Harte, who came to the DFA's attention back in 2003 and now directly leads to the release of 'Smokescreen' here on DFA with a brilliant remix by The Glimmers. The original is a twisted percussive nu disco track with rattling non-quantised conga patterns, whispered vox and tough midtempo kicks. The Glimmers deliver a stomping re-edit that sounds like a cross between a Talking Heads bassline and Danny Wang keyboards, a twisted space disco groover for the 23rd century!(DFAEMI2172)ELECTRO DISCO- 7/19/07-UK

Morris Audio Citysport / Frankie regular Tom Ellis is first up with "Harness" a swinging slice of deep soulful tech funk sounding like a mixture of old school Classic / Derrick Carter gear mixed up with the more soulful side of minimal house. Next up Hugo (Tongut/Floppy Funk) drops a wicked Mossa / Ark styled chunky cut and paste cut with wild samples strung together into a collage of moving grooves, soulful interludes and Akufen like funk. Moritz Piske (Opossum) turns in a hot Mos Ferry styled production that fans of Dapayk will freak for and rounding off the ep is label head honcho HR Schneider with "Wackbock" a track that laces plenty of retro disco samples together to create a firing dancefloor burner. More bang for your buck on this ep, MORE PLEASE!(HCF11)HOUSE- 7/23/07-GE

RENE ET GASTON
MERLUCHE IDEALS EP (ARTLESS) 12  - 105686
Heres a welcome repress! The good folks at Artless went and busted out an old highlight from the Rene et Gaston archives. You might recall one of the sides from Kevin Sauderson's "Transmissions From Deep Space" X-mix from K7. This track wasnt very widely released back then so repressing it was MORE than a good idea! It almost sounds better today than it did  then! On the flip, another familliar Rene et Gaston tune, though I cannot quite place it's origin. But its a classic example of just how hot these guys can get/have been.(ARTLES2198)HOUSE- 7/23/07-GE

MARK GRANT
GUESSIN AGAIN *YASS* (SUBURBAN) 12  - 105708
OM Records' Mark Grant re-ignites the ex NYC Suburban imprint with this soulful vocal joint which features Russoul delivering a performance which sounds a lot like Stevie Wonder over a classy deep house groove. Mark's "Soul Bounce" mix has a deeper more underground vibe with a heavier analog bass groove and swinging beats. Franck Roger collaborater and Purple Music regular Yass provides a remix, taking a slightly darker route that fans of Dennis Ferrer's recent output will definitely go for.(SU063)HOUSE- 7/23/07-UK

Massive electro-tinged houser on Tim Deluxe's AT label currently riding high on both the UK Cool Cuts and Buzz Charts, and coming complete with a remix by the man Mr Deluxe himself. 'Pressure Suit' has a quirky spoken vocal over bleepy synths and snappy jacking percussion. Very 20:20 meets Chicago jack. The Tim Deluxe mix is a more stripped-down and funkier affair with his signature swinging beats and bouncy energy.(AT12007)ELECTRO HOUSE- 7/19/07-UK

WILDCHILD
BRING IT ON DOWN *C FISCHER* (LOADED) 12  - 105667
Searing electro/club house mixes by Christian Fischer of Roger 'Wildchild' MacKenzie's seminal 'Bring It Down' tune, originally released on Loaded back in 1995 as part of Wildchild's 'Wildtrax' series. The original's punchy beats and sampled attitude get used perfectly by Fischer on the a-side, working in a grungy electro b-line, sampled vocal drops and HUGE thumping beats. Fischer's flipside remix is a speaker shaking dub version that sounds like Kurd Maverick on steroids. Wicked!(LOAD123)ELECTRO HOUSE- 7/19/07-UK

The A side has a drum heavy tribal hypnotic vibe reminiscent of early Tenaglia material, druggy, deep and quite twisted with great touches of melodic synths and one of those rocking tribal grooves you can listen and dance your ass of for hours to. On the flip is the funkier "Ui" based around a killer bassline that constantly morphs just a touch to keep this track moving along with shuffling beats, freaky wobbling pads and a Jaydee "Plastic Dreams" kind of vibe without the jazzy bell thing going on.(TKR001T)HOUSE- 7/23/07-FR

This reminds us a lot of early Aqua Bassino material on F Communications. On the flip "Lobata" is a similarly styled deep soulful house number with more energetic beats. Buzzin Fly's Ben Watt is loving this number and has been playing it regularly in his sets.(DPC007)HOUSE- 7/23/07-GE

Dapayk & Padberg give a triumphant return to productions after a little hiatus. This one is a monster, folks! Rough and tough on the drums, with a bassline that grabs you from out of nowhere, and a vocal thats talking about how MP3's kill vinyl, but it doesnt come off as cheesy as it might seem like it would. KID CREOLE & THE COCONUTS
WONDERFUL THING *GREG WILSON* (KAT) 12  - 105709
Kat returns with DJ only ZE edits of two tracks from the infuential label that fused the parallel NYC dance and punk scenes to create a new sound that they aptly christened Mutant Disco.  Kid Creole and Material are the artists getting the once over from DJ Greg Wilson, the oracle on this vital and misunderstood period in music.  No one can argue that Mr Wilson is the perfect man for the job. Having already paid Credit to the Edit, Greg Wilson tastefully reconstructs Kid Creole and the Coconuts' 1981 hit 'I'm a Wonderful Thing, Baby'. Emphasising the driving piano and mid-tempo beats, 'Wonderful' is in safe hands with Greg Wilson in control. Impossible not to move to this! On the flip we find Material's 'Over and Over' being edited by Greg, putting the funk into jazz-funk. Material were an early Bill Laswell project that delved deep into dancefloor-orientated jazz.(KAT03)EDIT- 7/23/07-UK

KEEN JULIA / SUPERMAX
IN A GADDA DA VIDA/AINT GONNA (SUPERSOUNDS) 12  - 105752
Julia keen "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (Cosmic Break Edit)", This is an edit made from an impossibly rare cosmic classic. If you can even find one an original 12" will likely cost you over $150 and has only has 3-4 minutes of playable grooves  in the middle of a pretty rank cover version. Supersounds have extended the break and dispensed with the rest and turned this track into a killer, killer tune. Supermax's "Ain't Gonna Feel" is edited on the flip, the Max's slo-mo acidic vocal groover cut big and loud on a 12" for the first time ever(CLOUD005)EDIT- 7/23/07-UK

Styro 2000... what all can I say about that guy. As one half of Galoppierende Zuversicht (who we here in Brooklyn call "The Swiss Guys", he consistantly rocks it everytime we hear him play live. And on records, he/they live up to everything the live show is. Nice thick techno sounds at more of a housey than hard tempo. CLIC
NR 1 EP (KRITIK) 12  - 105695
Something for everyone on this Kritik record, which doesnt really follow their usual nonsensical stylings. This one starts with a Bodzin/Huntemann-esque jammy jam. NExt, we have a crunchy and rather direct techno number with a buried vocal underneath that almost sounds like Kate Bush or something, but it's barely noticeable making it a bit more mysterious. finally, it closes out with a minimal groover thats all bassline, baby!(KRITIK007)MINIMAL HOUSE- 7/23/07-GE

LUCIANO PIZZELLA
BIOMES (BROQUE) 12  - 105701
All around kick ass 12" here. Luciano Pizzellas original on here is a ultra-dubby/synthy swarmer of a tech house track primed for early hours. Georg Neufelds remix is a tech house thumper with plenty of sweet bassline swirls abound. Volker Selzner gets deeper and techy adding a bit more form to the original, while Max Cavalerra stays in the same territory but gets a bit more melodic. All around nice package from some relatively unknown artists.(BROQUE08)MINIMAL TECHNO- 7/23/07-GE

Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being produces some of the dirtiest and nastiest mental jack techno known to man or beast. This time around, he's lightened things up a bit and made some deeper more atmospheric techno for the Apnea label. CLASSIC Isolee here. Groovy and nervous and never all that revealing as to where th song is actually headed. When the quick vocal part comes in, it's as suprising as it is wicked!
