FUNKY TRANSPORT VS JONEE Q
SHAKE IT *DERRICK CARTER* (FARRIS
WHEEL) 12 - 105294
SYNTAX EXCLUSIVE! Funky Transport have
provided the funk for more than a few of house music's top imprints including
but not limited to Classic, 20:20 Vision, Playhouse, Lowdown, Brique Rouge and
Flat & Round to name a few. Here they team up with Jonee Q and unleash some
deep underground funk. "Shake It" features jacking dirty rotten beats
with Jonee Q providing the spacey vocal over some trippy melodies, filthy bass
and analog funk. On top of this killer mix we're treated to a mix by the one
and only Derrick Carter. Derrick's mix injects even more funked up jacking
action in the beats, toughening them up while adding that patent fucked up feel
to Jonee Q's vocals. HUGE!(FWR017)HOUSE- 7/09/07-FR
TANNER ROSS & KILOWATT
HEAVYWEIGHT EP (DIRTYBIRD) 12 - 105304
This release has been 100% battle
tested on the road by both Claude VonStroke and Justin Martin. Both of these
cuts just rocked this year’s Detroit Electronic Music Festival to capacity
crowds! Tanner Ross and KiloWatts come to us from Boston with
their jam 'Kruger Fingers' sounding like a cross between Matthew Dear and Honey
Dijon. Rolling funky bass lines with a wicked popping techno synth make this
tune able to stand out in both house AND techno sets. The flipside 'Data Rape'
is the track for the job when you just need to hammer the crowd. Sounding like
Plastikman gone to another level, this collab with The Rejekts blends funk with
insane rolling percussion.(DB012)TECH HOUSE- 7/09/07-GE
CHROMEO
TENDERONI *DE CRECY* (TURBO) 12 -
105460
Chromeo opens up a can of funky
whup-ass on your unsuspecting hides with the release of 'Tenderoni', a tune
which by far has one of the funniest, funkiest vocal deliveries your likely to
have encountered all year! Remixers Proxy and Etienne De Crecy then take turns
elevating the original's throwback Minneapolis funk vibe into a screaming
electro-rave monster.(TURBO040)ELECTRO HOUSE- 7/09/07-GE
QUENTIN HARRIS FT C MCCLARY
U DONT KNOW (STRICTLY RHYTHM) 12 -
105303
Quentin Harris teams up with vocalist
Cordell McClary once again and unleashes a beauty of a track with sparse, deep
and soulful beats with Cordell providing an inspirational vocal performance
that is reminiscent of a chain gang / slave chant. Simply breathtaking. The
"Big Room" mix has a dope Murk vibe and also included on this package
is a Danny Howells re-edit of "House". Awesome
package.(SR12633)HOUSE- 7/09/07-UK
JESSE ROSE & OLIVER $
WAKE UP *JESSE ROSE RMX* (MADE TO PLAY)
12 - 105378
Jesse Rose & Oliver $ have teamed
up for a darker than usual house music thang. Wake Up has a big sound to it.
Not big as in big progressive house, but more on the subtle sounds of a big
warehouse tune from 97. This one is sure to move you. Dark bassline but steady
percussive rhythms with nice FX work on a sound that follows you around the
whole track. Solid stuff here, but then again it's on Made To Play... so you
knew it was solid already!(MTP008)HOUSE- 7/09/07-GE
TROYDON
SHORT CIRCUIT *DECOSTA/J HEATH
(PHONOSHUFF) 12 - 104723
After a monstrous debut, Phonoshuffle
returns strong with another fine offering from head honcho Troydon. "I'm
With Ya" kicks things off in fine fashion with grinding beats, quirky
samples, and the bassline from Curtis Mayfield's "If There's A Hell
Below". Very Switch styled! Joshua Heath reworks this on the flip giving
it a deeper more Inland Knights feel with a fat new live sounding bassline,
warm stabs and clever use of some of the original melody. Troydon teams up with
Decosta for "New York Minute", another sweet Drop Music flavored
house gem with slick jazzy keys, warm chords and bouncy bassline. Troydon is on
fire(PSHUF102)HOUSE- 7/02/07-BE
LINDSTROM
BREAKFAST IN HEAVEN (FEEDELITY) 12 -
105291
Lindstrom returns with some wicked
Moroder-esque italo goodies. "Breakfast In Heaven" is a delicious
electronic disco treat with heavenly synth arpeggios, futuristic melodies and
pushing, funky beats. On the flip is the darker, dirtier and more dancefloor
aggressive "Blast Of Loser" with a rugged synth riff that snakes its
way around funky percussion, sparse effects and plodding beats.(FEED010)DISCO-

LEE MORTIMER
MUSH *DUCKENFIELD* (ODORI) 12 - 105415
Mr Mortimer visits Chris Duckenfield's
Odori imprint, bringing with him plenty of squelched-out electronic house funk
in the form of 'Mush'. The original is all about the brash, resonating bassline
that slams itself in your face from the get-go and subsequently gets filtered,
tweaked and pitch-bent all to hell. The remix comes from Duckenfield, an 808
bottom feeder of a tune that will give your subwoofers a serious run for their
money. Better check the warranty on those bad boys.(ODORI038)TECH HOUSE-

RIVER OCEAN
LOVE AND HAPPINESS *MAW* (STRICTLY
RHYTHM) DP - 105128
'Anthem' and 'Classic' are terms
tossed about like so much confetti, but just once in a while the record in
question deserves such an epithet. And River Ocean's 'Love and Happines' is unarguably such a record. A
masterpiece both vocally and musically, 'Love & Happiness' was originally
released in 1994, just as producers Masters At Work became the Number 1 house
production act in the world and a little before India became a hugely
successful Latino singing sensation. That it never became a crossover record -
the complex Latin rhythms and sophisticated hooks were too rich for the pop
charts, endeared it all the more to the house nation underground. Now MAW
tackle the tricky task of remixing the opus, the first time 'Love &
Happiness' has ever been remixed. And they get it going on both ways, turning
out one retweaked for '07 version and another totally revamped modernist rub
that takes in shades of Mr V and Ame. A true classic, then and
now.(SR12636DJ)HOUSE- 7/09/07-UK
INNERSPHERE AKA SHINEDOE
PHUNK *VILLALOBOS/BROOM* (INTACTO) 12
- 105299
In our ears Ricardo Villalobos can do
no wrong lately, providing some intense remixes of the likes of Depeche Mode,
Beck and Shackleton to name a few. Here Ricardo has a go at Innersphere's
"Phunk" transforming the tune into a deep and beautiful hypnotic
journey of epic proportions. ON the flip Mark Broom spices things up nicely
with a retro techno rub with old school synth stab riffs, minimal beats and
deep trippy sound design.(INTAC010)MINIMAL TECHNO- 7/09/07-BE
I CUBE
LES ARCHIVES CUBISTES VOL 1 (VERSATILE)
12 - 105380
2 previously unreleased tracks from
the archives of I:Cube. Both are from 1999 when his take on house music was
really catching on. Very pretty and full, with dirty basslines, and very detroit
influenced. Hopefully they keep on with the unreleased stuff from him, as he's
always been one of our favorites.(VER052)HOUSE- 7/09/07-GE
ROCCO
CLUB CULTURE *3 CHANNELS* (FREERANGE)
12 - 105411
Rocco is back to make his debut on
Freerange, delivering the tunes 'Stormy' and 'The Revolution' plus a wicked 3
Channels remix of 'Stormy' that will thrill fans of the more minimal German
electronic house sound. Anyone following the direction that Ben Watt's Buzzin
Fly imprint has been taking recently will be very into this bad
boy.(FR093)MINIMAL HOUSE- 7/09/07-UK
OLAV BASOSKI
PUSH ME (ROOTZ) 12 - 105429
The follow up to the club stomper 'Da

unbeatable combination of fat club-friendly beats and funky house basslines.
Both the original and aa-side remix bring out those huge 4/4 beats the he does
so well!(RTZ026)HOUSE- 7/09/07-NL
MATTHIAS HEILBRONN
THE JUNGLE DUB (POKER FLAT WHITE) 12 -
105253
Matty Heilbronn is onto something
here! Both sides of this instant classic are absolutely wicked! the A-side of
this is a classic example of party rockin house music! All of it takes
influence from an old chicago tune I think youll all be able to recognize. The flip
gets even more bouncey with a dub version that takes influence from Computer
Madness.(PFRWHITE02)HOUSE- 7/02/07-GE
UFFIE
FIRST LOVE / BRAND NEW CAR (ED BANGERS)
12 - 104570
Uffie returns to display that she's
got more skills than an 80's pop star like Tiffany or Debbie Gibson. Actually if
you took either one of those 80's icons and injected them with crack and a
healthy dose of French Nu Rave (thanks to production by Mr Oizo) you have an
idea of what "First Love" feels like. "Brand New Car" has a
more booty / ghetto feel with more of that jerky, abrasive and quite catchy nu
rave production quality.(ED018)PUNK/FUNK/DISCO- 7/02/07-FR
MASTERS AT WORK
WORK *MILK & SUGAR/RIFF & RAY*
(KONTOR) 12 - 105436
Brilliant new GERMAN-ONLY mixes of
MAW's new single 'Work' brought to you by Riff & Rays and Milk & Sugar,
with the original mix included on the flip as a bonus. Riff & Ray's version
is a driving electro house re-work using the full female vocal and sample
shouts from the original, tuned up to perfection over squelchy synth riffs and
grungy electro-house basslines. Milk & Sugar's mix takes a more chunky,
tribal approach with its slick drum grooves, rolling piano chords and re-worked
vocals adding a sultry, sensual vibe that's perfect for those sweaty 3am house
sessions.(KONTOR620)HOUSE- 7/09/07-GE

The Bootie Pimps {or is the Boogie

'Personal Jesus', turning it into a full-on electro/club burner that is already
storming the European floors this summer. You can't beat a genuine Johnny Cash

BODDHI SATVA
BRIAS OFFERING (YORUBA) 10 - 101326
Bria´s Offering was the introductory
track on the Osunlade the Osunlade disc of the "Soul Heaven Presents:
Osunlade & Spen" and was one of the most talked about songs from the
WMC of last year. Add to that his collaborations with Alton Miller as well as
working with Afefe Iku for his upcoming album Boddhi will be one of the names
to look out for in 2007. In true Yoruba style deepness "Bria´s
Offering" delivers an invitation to the dancefloor. It´s syncopated
rhythms, dubbed out voices, deep keys and smooth guitar work give this one
unique vibe that will have the dancers dancing, and everyone else bopping their
head to the beat. The Roots mix brings similar elements of the original, but it
kicks up the percussion, giving it a more Afro house feel. With congas in full
effect, this one will raise the spirituality bar up a notch. This is balanced
perfectly with even funkier guitar playing original. lready picking up support
from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Dj Deep, Kerri Chandler and Larry

Junior Jack has the knack for hit

handed rock influenced guitar hook that leads into a typically hand raising
epic production with fat bass, entrancing pads and big, big room beats. "Life"
on the flip is a stark contrast to the A, having a Daft Punk vibe with vocoded

It's always a milestone in an artist's

on some of the finest underground labels in Europe, Danton felt the time was right to mix his own brew
and launch Fondation Records. There’s no big statement attached here, Fondation
will be a simple DJ orientated vinyl label for his own output and artists that
inspire him. 'These Eyes ' is a dark, bassy acid house track with a twisted
dialogue on top, openly sexy but in a classy, not too obvious way. 'Strictly

unavoidable jackin groove that melts within a 303 bass line. The climax comes

ALL OVER / AHH SABU (NEED2SOUL) 12 -
105171
We're always excited when we see a new
production from Anthony Nicholson as he nevr disappoints. Here he delivers two
pristine tracks starting with "All Over", a warm soulful house
journey of meditative xylophone, deep percussion, layers of ass shaking space
funk electronica and traces of house, techno and disco fusion. This reminds us
a lot of a Ron Trent production. On the flip "Ahh Sabu" has a more
afro influence with slick percussive beats, warm chords, gorgeous strings and a
perfect little vocal hook.(N2S004)HOUSE- 7/02/07-UK

BACK OF BEYOND *3LP* (HOSPITAL) 3L -
104281
Since his debut album in 2005, Nu:Tone
has been hard at work honing his sound, this album shows the new maturity,
depth and vision thats been attained. Featuring collaborations with some
amazing musicians the album explores house and techno themes withing the drum
& bass framework, has awesome anthenic dancefloor killers and a cohesion
often lacking in the long player format. Lead single 'Beliefs' features the
vocalsof Pat Fulgoni, 'System' brings back Natalie Williams who vocalised two
of the tracks on his debut album, Commix (who release their debut album on
Metalheadz later in the year) bring their skills to the 'Take Me Back'
collaboration, Logististics and Talc contribute to two tracks each, and
Scandinavian senstaion Ernesto rounds off the fine line up. Warm, soulful, edgy
and energetic... in short a great album.(NHS122)DRUM & BASS- 6/14/07-UK
