AGAVE0719 : Jazzy Eyewear vs Toka Project

All Spun Up - Agave – US

Jazzy Eyewear residing in the sunshine state has brought his attention to you through the potent So Sound label of which he devised some time back. He now makes his debut here on Agave with a potent three tracker with the help of his friends across the pond, To-Ka Project. The long side reflects the initial spark to this project for Agave’s A&R with the Spinning original. It’s simplistic rhythm and mono bass stabbing are the foundation of which this puncher is built. Subtle vocal riffs and clever edits roll through the entire track giving the floor many tidbits to shake to. The UK’s To-Ka Project takes command of the B1 with a jazzy edit of the Spinning title. Swinging bassline and shaker rhythm make this outside cut a real gem for the flip. It was a real toss up for team Agave as to where to place this remix as it truly works on either side. Jazzy makes his return on the inside for a new track all together. Temperature rising is a chilled out ringer with a delicate male vocal not heard too often. It calls out leaving the loop stuck in one’s ear for much time to come.

GFR007 : Slum Science

Strikes EP – Goodfamily Recordings – US

Great EP from Hudd Traxx label owners Slum Science, this time on San Fran’s own Good Family."Right Up My Street" on A1, is indeed just that - tight percussion and a sweet rhodes riffs galore. "Strikes" on A2 features a short disco-guitar loop, heavy bass, and a definite Chicago sort of feeling. Flip over for "Taking It Back" on B1, another dance floor friendly track with cool piano and  vocal samples. Last but not least on B2 we have Jason Hodges taking up the remix duty  of "Taking It Back" which delivers exactly what's expected: tight drum programing, filtered vocal bits, and loads of dancefloor appeal

Flip over to the B Side and JT serves up a techy number with plenty of spacey fx's that build throughout. Back In Town – Phobic

Strong second release from Phobic following up from their incredible debut "Homage", this is no deviation by any means! 002 features a Late Night Society original, which stays true to their US Jackin roots and pumps along untill the very end. The 2 remixes make this record go from good to great. The Toka project remains true to their form with proper spoken word samples and excellent keys. Label owner Tom Special Interest turns in a excellent mix with a nice swingy bassline and well placed horns. Another fine release from this new label, a must have for all fans of Nottingham house.

FAR-OTRS6 : Herb LF

"Fruchtalarm (Wighnomy Remix)" : FARSIDE – DE

Farside Records presents “Fruchtalarm", the second 12inch from Herb LF. With heavy plays of his “Miles/Jam 2 Tha Mother” release by DJs like Rainer Trüby, Jimpster (scored top 3 in his charts), Jazzanova, Osunlade or Marcus Worgull, “Fruchtalarm” comes along to fill the floors with a hypnotic dope-deep-detroit-tech-house grower & beautiful chords/strings. Everbody who knows Herb LF as part of the duo Westpark Unit (with Ingo Sänger), Gush Collective or house, freestyle, drum & bass DJ, could not overlook his fable for booming bassline business. When the “Fruchtalarm” bass drops in every party is a rocking place, but still with the necessary dosis of deepness, soul or jazz. Another highlight of the 12inch is the breath taking “Fruchtalarm” remix by our friend and one of the most famous German electronic masterminds to date, Robag Wruhme (Wighnomy Brothers, Freude Am Tanzen, Mute). By the way, the complete label catalogue of Robag has been mastered by Herb LF. The “Fruchtalarm” mix of mighty Robag Wruhme is one of his best so far! You might call this jazz, minimal electronic, house or whatever. With this wonderful vibe and the irresistible groove, the “Wighnomy Obstkokktailie” rework of “Fruchtalarm” should find its way to all floors and could be magic even in loungy sets. Did I hear someone shouting St. Germain?? An Herb LF record would not be Herb LF without the right dose of dopeness. “City Rush Boogie Dub” features the vox of Matt Flores (Compost, Combination) and is so easy and fresh. House with an hip hop vibe, dubsounds and jazz appeal. Jus’ cool!

COMP256-1 : Koop

"Remixes By Drumlesson, SIRS & Beanfield" : COMPOST – DE

Third installment in the “Koop Island” remix series comes with hot club mixes by Christian Prommer’s Drumlesson (a 7 minute tech jazz meets classic house workout) , SIRS (aka Daniel Klein aka Gucciman) and Beanfield. Played by DJ Karizma, Laurent Garnier, Jamie Odell, Ben Watt, Louie Vega … Three is the magic number! As a matter of fact the third installment in the Koop remix series brings you not only some more floor friendly reworks of everyone’s favourite transvestite jazzers but at least two sureshot bangers! On the A-Side we got the mighty Drumlesson Remix by Christian Prommer. The producer of Fauna Flash and Voom:Voom fame picks up the bonus beats of the album to transform them into a 7 minute tech-jazz-meets-classic-house workout that drags “Drum Rhythm A” kicking and screaming onto the dancefloor. The B-Side once again sees Beanfield’s remix of “I See A Different You” but this time sweet singer Yukimi Nagano gets left behind on the excursion to Detroit. And yes, the much requested instrumental version sounds even better without the vocals! Last but not least there is a nice version of “Let’s Elope” by SIRS - also known as Gucciman or Daniel Klein, co-founder of Flamingo Discos. He pushes the right buttons to build a grooving deep house tune around the warm vocals of Mikael Sundin. So, let’s elope today with Koop!

GM19 : Glenn Coates

Waking up the Gimp EP : GUESTHOUSE MUSIC – US

After recent sucess on Greenhouse, Glenn Coates steps over the pond and joins Guesthouse Music for a solid 3 tracker. A1 is a head turner with smooth keys, a proper deep bass and a wicked horn solo. The second track on the A side is Touchy Feely, a bouncy track w/ vocal stabs and nice punchy bass lines. B1 is the pick of the lot for me, with some herbie hancock samples, proper programming and a solid synth basslinse that rides with the groove the whole track. Guesthouse does it again, House music at its best.

TANGO054 : Casey Nefcy vs Jessica Marquez

Put it back “Remixes by Juke Joint and Dj Dealer” – TANGO RECORDINGS – US

Longtime Om Records engineer Casey Nafcy  teams up with Uneaq's Jessica Marquez for a deep vocal cut ideal for the Tango crowd. The Original is a moody late night track with perfect vocals from Jessica and deep bass highlighted by smooth distant keys. DJ Dealer takes things up a notch reminicent of his Pound Boy fame. With plenty of vocal stabs and synth riffs, this is definitley a peaktime track. Props to Tango, another quality release!

LINGO004 - MATT SHREWD / SLATER HOGAN & JOHN LARNER

UNDERWATER / HIPSHAKA  LINGO RECORDINGS US

Matt Shrewd kicks of this 4th release from Lingo Recordings with some Jacked up Funk, "Underwater". As well as a classic Funk bass line Matt also adds a pulsating electro bass to drive this tune along, add some snippets of funky horns and Rare Groove piano stabs, finally add some Male & Female vocal harmonies edits which all combine to create a Jackin gem. First up on the remix duty is the one and only Chuck Love. Chuck’s remix is reminiscent of his recent Tango outings while he blends old school and new school. A Must have! Flip it over for Hogan & Larners "Hipshaker" a tight little jazz roller with Jackin beats and bass. The boys know how to work a melody to the max and the simple rhythms and melodies create hooks that will stick in your head and enter the conscience quickly. Last up is Lingo’s own William Alexander, who is already making a name for himself off his recent Ringside EP. He puts his unique blend of choppy beats and heavy basslines to create a sound that’s sure to get your head noddin.

TM-002 – THE GROOVE FEDERATION  ft CRAIG HAMILTON

SIDE POCKET EP  - TASTIE MUSIC   UK

This 2nd ep from Tastie Music is full of surprises. The EP kicks of with 'The Beat goes Boom' a Jazzy deep groove with rolling bongos and shuffling beats and its bluesy piano melodies. Craig Hamilton Jacks up on the remix with steppin' beats and bumpy B Line. Flip it over for the tasty head nodder 'Tell Me', a blend of jazz and funk vibes all caressed with a subby B Line and old skool vocal 'Let it Go'. They say you should always keep the best till last, and Tastie certainly have on this occasion. The final track 'Hey Baby' my fave track on the ep, a pulsating rhythm of Bass and hooks, this will liven up any dance floor and will appeal to a wide range of House lovers.

JTS003 – RICH SUTCLIFFE ft JOHNNY FIASCO & LOOPITY GOOFS

CRAZY DISCO LEGS EP - JACK THE SYSTEM – UK

After rippin' up the dancefloors with the first two Jackin Jazz releases Rich comes with a brand new track called "Disco Legs" he drafts in House Maestro Johnny Fisco and rising star Loopity Goofs on the remix's. Rich's mix goes for a Funked up Jackin mix with an Acid B-Line, Johnny's mix starts with a pulsing 4/4 kick and echoing Old Skool female vocal which grabs the attention before the track drops its twisted acid bassline and stabbed Acid Riffs. Big crowd pleasing breakdown coming back with "ahhh ahhh yeahhh" vocal edit floating on top of acid bleeps and rinsin B Line. Loopity Goofs comes with a Jazz take featuring the vocals used on the other two mixes. Funky in your face horns laid on some Phat Beats & Bass. COBBLESTONE JAZZ

LIME IN DA COCONUT (WAGON REPAIR) 12  - 105065

THE WHIP

DIVEBOMB *CRYSTAL CASTLES* (KITSUNE) 12  - 104981

JUSTICE

THE CROSS *DLP* (BECAUSE / ED BANGERS) DP  - 104786

Justice debut album is here , "CROSS" which is a wonderful twelve track album which opens with 'Genesis'. A dark baroque beginning that introduces a mind fuck of an album that proves  that Justice's unique talent is to be found where least expected. Take for example 'Let There Be Light' and its strident angry electro driven by a jabbing bassline, 'D.A.N.C.E', a pure piece of vicious house sang innocently by a choir of children, 'Newjack' a funky parody of the opulent times of the French Touch. 'Phantom I' that takes over where 'Waters of Nazareth' left off to drift towards 'Phantom II' and its head-swirling disco violins. 'Valentine', an erotic melancholic nursery rhyme, like a tribute to Vladimir Cosma and 'The Party' a pure electro funk track where the sexy Uffie plays more than ever the cheeky Lolita. 'DVNO', a lesson to anyone trying to fuse electro with rock. 'Stress', a hectic race that would drive the Chemical Brothers insane with jealousy. Or the finale, 'One Minute to Midnight', a parallel to the 'Genesis' opening, which closes the album beautifully.(BEC5772110)NU RAVE- 6/18/07-FR

D RAMIREZ

LA DISCOTEK *EMERSON/CAGEDBABY (UNDERWATER) 12  - 104542

The original's huge tribal/tech sound gets boosted even further into the stratosphere thanks to a pair of new looks courtesy of Darren Emerson and Caged Baby. Emerson's remix is a filthy, steamy tech/freak workout that sees the spoken vocals get bathed in nasty reverbs, lashed by dirty electronic beats and dominated by a grungified electro lead. On the flip Caged Baby's mix is a darker affair with a sleeker electro house vibe thats just right when its time to shift your set into mental overdrive.(H20080R)TECH HOUSE- 6/18/07-UK

BEN WIJAY

AYRE TIME (PHREAKIN) 12  - 104931

You might better recall Ben Wijay as Just Muzik and his release a few years back on Inland Knights Drop Music imprint. Here for his second release on Phreakin, Ben drops three tracks of chunky dancefloor funk. 'Ayre Time' is disco tinged barnstormer with an intense breakdown and a Black Science Orchestra meets Tom Middleton feel. 'Sleepwalking' delves deeper into the misty area between house and techno. With its seductive bassline, chugging drum arrangement and undulating chords it sits comfortably between Motorbass and Matthew Johnson. 'Osmosis' is a collaboration with Schmoov's Andre Bonsor.  After two days of kamikaze clubbing they sat on a cold English morning, bleary eyed at their keyboards. Energy was low, but the creative juices were haemorrhaging. As the sleep fairy drew ever closer they captured the moment with this monged out after hours slow jam that oozes with sauntering soul.(PHR002T)HOUSE- 6/25/07-FR

'Portamento' is a slow burning atmospheric groover with ultra-warm synths and hypnotising bassline, one for the floor. The remix from Palm Skin Productions works that original into a synth-fueled frenzy that lies somewhere between Kerri Chandler and Daniel Stefanik. As a bonus Manuel includes 'Slumber', a minimal & moody jam thats been a personal fave of Dirt Crew's James Flavour, amongst others.(FR091)HOUSE- 6/18/07-UK

3 more tracks from Rob Acid's 'A Cheerful Temper' album!! 'Loosing Memories' is a warm dub house stomper that combines the fuzzy analague warmth of a Plastic City release with the abstract cuts, clicks and glitch patterns you'd expect from Mr Babicz. 'Milo's Groove' is even hotter, a pumping heads-down house track with rolling sub bass and piercing sounds. The 3rd track 'Warsaw' is no slouch either. This one is rocks a liquified bassline, gentle tones and unique squelchy synth riffs over a trademark jacked 4/4.(SYST083)TECH HOUSE- 6/25/07-GE

FREEDOM SOUNDZ FT COLONEL RED

TAKE MY LOVE BACK *F ROGER* (VISIONS) 12  - 103767

Coloned Red has penned the vocals for many a deep soulful house hit and here provides the dopeness on "Take My Love". SPACE TRAVEL *GINO S/SNAKE* (NOTORIOUS ELEKTRO) 12  - 104842

The legendary Hacker comes to Notorious Elektro with an absolute kicker of a release that brings some stunning grooves to the electro techno floors out there. SPINCYCLE

DRUG GAMES *BRETT JOHNSON* (LEFTROOM LTD) 12  - 104909

Originally out on the Geek imprint five years ago, this Spincycle joint was a major tune for a slew of top dj's, one of those secret squirrel jams that sent trainspotters to the booth everywhere. Leftroom unearths this hidden classic and gets Brett Johnson and Audiofly X to drop some heavy remixes. The original sounds just as relevant and hot as it did in 02', The Audiofly X mix is a warped acidic mix that fits in nicely with recent RZ material or say Dj Fex shit (go back and check his "Acid Forever" on Brique Rouge people you're sleeping!). Brett Johnson gets Chicago bleepy on his mix which utilises some freaked out synth bleep action, shuffling beats and dirty pitched vocal bits.(LEFTLTD006)HOUSE- 6/18/07-UK
