BLACKJOY

UNTITLED*SOLID GROOVE/GOLDMAN* (FREERANGE) 12 - 100747

Brand new mixes of this rare Black Joy track that originally came out on small independent French imprint Project Recordings a couple years back. Stefan Goldmann {Poker Flat/Perlon} steps up with a hypnotising minimal re-treatment working crisp, minimal drums and glassy digital chord hits. The gloves come off on the B-side as Solid Groove unleashes da funk, freaking the fx and adding some new dark n' twisted vocal parts that properly mangle the original yet keep all its soul and funk. Top!(FR083)MINIMAL HOUSE- 2/12/07-UK

LUKE SOLOMON

LITTLE CREATURES *T SCHUMAKER* (DOTBLEEP) 12 - 101627

Mr 'Music For Freaks' unleashes some freakiness of his own here on Justin Long's Dotbleep flagship with the Chicago-influenced and acid-infested joint 'Little Creatures'. The main mix features a wonky 303 line and whispered 'little creatures' vocal over jackin' beats and bass. Hammered by Derrick Carter, John Larner and ECB. Tim Schumaker's remix takes you along for a techier, glitchier ride with tougher beats and a HUGE electronic bassline. This will make you sweat! To finish the EP there's a dubbier version of the title track entitled 'Additional Creatures' plus the deeper closing number ' Dancing A Bright Beam Of Light'.(DBR014)HOUSE- 2/12/07-UK

DANIEL WANG /NIX/BASED IN TOKYO

4 SEASON SAMPLER (JETSET) 12 - 101620

Daniel Wang was one of the first of the new crop of slow sleazy disco provacateurs and here lays down the first of three wicked joints on this LIMITED sampler for the forthcoming CD only compilation of some of the finest joints of the Japanese underground house scene. This ep is limited to 300 copies and is destined to change hands on e-bay for big duckets soon. Mr Wang goes all Gil Scot Heron on his track "Higashiyama No Autumn" while his good friend Dj Ban provides "Syk-A" under the Nix guise, a beautifully slow and sexy nu disco romp very much on the Brennan Green / Lindstrom tip. Rounding off this sampler is Bassed On Kyoto's "Flower" which sounds like a mixture of Spiritual Life and Hundred Birds sounds.(JS12S007)PUNK/FUNK/DISCO- 2/12/07-GE

FRANCK ROGER FT TOMELO

FREE FOR ALL (REAL TONE) 12  - 101555

Deep house master Franck Roger is back with a vocal house anthem featuring the sultry vocals of Tomelo. "Free For All" has deep laid back beats with breaky snares that give the drums great shuffle while Tomelo's vocals draw you into the beautiful melodies which include a smooth harp stroke and warm chords. A dope instrumental follows this. On the flip Jolene provides the sexy vocals on "Salsa Moves You", another slick deep house vocal. The instrumental on this is equally amazing.(RTR019)HOUSE- 2/12/07-FR

JUSTIN MAXWELL

SPEND A NIGHT (PALETTE) 12  - 101101

Justin Maxwell returns with a vengence here spewing three menacing tracks that quite simply blew us away. "The Midnight Bleep" is a long grooving number that occupies the A side and has a most infectious hollow synth groove that snakes its way in and out of a bleepity groove that swings like old Classic / Derrick Carter records but with more of a techy choppy edge. On the flip Justin heads deep into twisted waters on "Get Off The Bed" a ketamine induced hallucination of shaking bass and deeper than deep psychedelic and twisted minimal techno action. Rounding off the ep is "3am Cat Rodeo" another subterranean joint heavy on the trippy synths & effects and sounding like a mixture of older Monolake and Chain Reaction material.(PAL043)HOUSE- 2/12/07-GE

KERRI CHANDLER

THE PROMISE *FISH GO DEEP* (NRK) 12  - 101551

Kerri Chandler's intoxicating house vocal "The Promis" which featured Kerri himself on vocals receives two first class club remixes from Fish Go Deep. Their mix features crunchy drums with emotive chords and uplifting keys which really brings out the best in Kerri's melancholic vocal delivery. On the flip they provide a cool dub which has the feeling of early Mood II Swing gear.(NRK126R)HOUSE- 2/12/07-UK

FUCKPONY

DARK SIDE PT 2 (GET PHYSICAL) 12  - 101604

Jay Haze saddles up his trusty Fuckpony and gives us another glance at 'The Dark Side Of The Pony' here with Volume 2. 'Flower' is a wicked techno-oriented joint with a fat, err we mean FAT lead synth riff and charged 4/4 beats- nothing minimal about this rocker at all! 'Cold Slave' is all about that tangy, twangy pony funk with a bassline that makes your hips shake uncontrollably.(GPM063)ELECTRO HOUSE- 2/12/07-GE

MARC ROMBOY V CHELONIS JONES

HELEN CORNELL *S GOLDMANN* (SYSTEMATIC) 12  - 101611

Oh my god!! Romboy and vocalist Chelonis R Jones have delivered an anthem here for Systematic that rivals in sound and feel the recent Timewriter stuff on Plastic City. 'Helen Cornell' gets her sad story told thru Jones' gritty voice and Marc Romboy's chunky production that works some thick, grinding keys, bass and beats- think Green Velvet moves to Berlin! On the flip Perlon's Stefan Goldmann brings out the freak in Jones' vocals with some twisted bit-crushed FX and ultra-reduced sound set. Amazing!!(SYST031)TECH HOUSE- 2/12/07-GE

SPIRIT CATCHER

HARMONIZE (20 20 VISION) 12  - 101622

Top notch electronic disco from Spirit Catcher, sliding nicely alongside Kirk DeGiorgio's massive 'Starwaves' on Freerange in the midst of your set. 'harmonize' just drips with funk, from its 80's retro sound set to its amazing keyboard playing, funky bass stabs and killer drum kit with a snare drum on it that could snap bone. On the flip 'Night Vision' features a sleazy male vocal which adds to the decadent Booka-Shade meets Studio 54 vibe thats happening here.(VIS143)ELECTRO HOUSE- 2/12/07-UK

HIPP E

PEOPLE (SLIP N SLIDE) 12  - 101629

Hipp E is back on Slip n Slide with this hard-hitting slab of underground house. The 'Main Mix' sports a MASSIVE bassline that adds a dark and twisted vibe to an already sinister production thats laced with crazy vocal edits, sneaky acid loops and hollow backing sounds over some seriously tight drums. The 'Dub Mix' will work for fans of John Tejada's sound, definitely along the lines of the recent Buzzin Fly releases and a real killer!(SLIP223)TECH HOUSE- 2/12/07-UK

Just when you thought the 'Synaptic' series might be finished with its great run comes another amazing new installment! Pascal is right on point here, dishing some floor-shaking hypnotic techno-funk typified by the lead cut 'Bring The Beat Back', a track that reminds you why you got into raving and clubbing in the first place, with its raw kicks, funky snares and mind-bending sounds interfacing perfectly with your substance of choice. LAIDBACK LUKE

KILLING THE KITCHEN (SIZE) 12  - 101632

The man like Laidback Luke is back with a vengeance, once again wrecking shop following his massive release on Steath just a couple of weeks back. 'Killing The Kitchen',here on Steve Angello's Size imprint, is a thumping electro-infused house weapon designed for the big rooms and up for it crowds. A HUGE synth riff leads the charge, accompanied by filthy bass stabs and a nasty droning keyboard sound leading to a twisted full-on buildup. Think Presta meets Tenaglia!(SIZE014)ELECTRO HOUSE- 2/12/07-UK

ARIL BRIKHA

WINTER EP (KOMPAKT) 12  - 101639

From the Kompakt stables comes Stockholm based Aril Brikha. Aril first came on the scene some years ago when he released an ep called The Art of Vengence on Derrick May's FRAGILE recordings back in 1998. "Groove La Chord" was the big hit off that, which STILL gets play to this day! This record for Kompakt feels like another big winner for Mr Brikha. "Winter" couldnt be a more appropriate title for this. Very cold and heavy on the synth lines, riding that fine line between classic melodic Detroit techno and trance. We see it as being a very large crossover record, pleasing the masses across the board. On the flip is "Berghain" which is perhaps a bit deeper with a VERY Detroit meets Berlin feel to it. Hopefully, this will not be the last we hear of Aril's music this year. A stellar release for Kompakt, as well as Mr Brikha.(KOM151)TECH HOUSE- 2/12/07-GE

KIKO NAVARRO

ACHE PA TI *YORUBA SOUL* (PACHA BLUE) 12  - 101537

Osunlade works his soulful magic on Kiko Navarro's sunny Latin gem "Ache Pa Ti". His vocal mix is a typically beautiful percussive gem with slickly layered live drumming, deep bass, deep driving stabs and beautiful synth strings. Osunlade's dub adds a more driving electronic edge that reminds us of Blakkat's remix of Solomonic Sound's "Children Of Israel". An awesome vocal tool along with the oringial album mix is included on this essential slab of wax.(PB003K)HOUSE- 2/08/07-FR

This one has been seeing much play from Tiefschwarz, Sebastian, Joakim and Munk on CDR for some time now and is finally available for the rest of us!(KTDJ006)HOUSE- 2/12/07-FR

'Couldn't Care Less' is all about the twisted bass and lead sounds, cut with techno-inspired drums and rushing string sounds; think Pickadoll sounds. Those in the know heard this incredibly deep and soulful, beautiful track on Tom Middleton's Fabric Mix CD at the beginning of last yeaer but the track has yet to find its way onto vinyl. The original mix features deep pads, warm electronic melodies, a slick acidic bassline and epic late night vibe. Freerange / Buzzin Fly producer Jimpster drops the remix on the flip a funkier mix very much in the vein of their Freerange releases. DOPE!(STIR1533)HOUSE- 2/12/07-GE

PHONIQUE

UNIT / CLOSER GROOVE (EXUN) 12  - 100800

Unit exemplifies Phonique's darker side, very much on his Poker Flat, off the wall funked up tip with haunting pads, shaking bassline, tricky beats and perfecly arranged composition. On the flip a Phonique classic can be found, "Closer Groove" originally released on the 10 Days Off sampler, a wicked slice of melodic tech house.(EXUN2047)HOUSE- 2/12/07-GE

100 HZ

TRUST LOVE *ORGUE ELECTRONIQUE (HI PHEN) 12  - 100834

This tech house vocal pearl was first heard in a dodgy private after party in Paris circa 1999, spun by Ivan Smagghe and after over 6 years of chasing the Hi Phen imprint finally tracked down the tune an secured it for release. The original is a cult tune and has garnered early support from Rob Mello, The Glimmerz and D'Julz to name a few and the track receives two allstar remixes, the first coming from Clone / Viewluxx's Orgue Electronique who drop a wicked mix that sounds like an update of the classic Chicago / Marshall Jefferson sound with more of an Italo twist. Patrick Pulsinger also provides a monstrous remix, proper emotive electro techno gear for peak time floors.(MD016)HOUSE- 2/12/07-BE

Markus takes the lead with two killer cuts inspired by the likes of John Dahlback, DK7 and Ozgur Can. 'Baxi' features some rather raw Juno 106 sounding white noise modulations and hypnotic minimal grooves, while the flipside track 'Ropno' is a sleeker, more stripped-down micro groover aimed squarely at the dancefloor.(SQUONK001)MINIMAL HOUSE- 2/12/07-GE

AKIKO KIYAMA

ANCHOR EP *JAMBI* (DISTRICT OF CORRUPTION) 12  - 101638

BJORN B

20 HZ (SPINNIN) 12  - 101642

Big club weapon here on the mighty Spinnin imprint {Bodyrox/Sharam} as producer Bjorn B gets you in touch with the lowest frequency us humans can hear, namely 20 HZ. The bass on this track definitely goes WAY down there, accompanied by some serious keyboard riffs and catchy breakdown that launches this one into Dave Spoon territory. 3 tasty bass-fueled mixes to play with.(SP063)ELECTRO HOUSE- 2/12/07-NL

FRENCH FOUNDATION

IN DA HOUSE (PEAKTIME) 12  - 101544

Next up on Antoine Clamaran's Peaktime imprint is French Foundation whose releases on another of Antoine's imprints, Academy were MASSIVE. IBIZA SUMMER (PRYDA) 12  - 98182

This one sided killer produced by Mr Eric Prydz absolutely tore up the Ibizan dancefloors this summer, with Eric caning it along with the likes of Sasha, John Digweed and Paolo Mojo. This one nicks the riff from Inner City 'Good Life' and gives it the Prydz electro house treatment that has 'A N T H E M' written all over it. FINALLY RE-PRESSED!!(OUT001)ELECTRO HOUSE-10/09/06-GE

HEROIN

HEROIN (GRAND PETROL) 12  - 101605

JORGE SAVORETTI & QIK

WHEEL OF TIME (ESPERANZA) 12  - 101612

Young and very hip Spanish imprint that comes via Germany is only on it's fourth release and has already seen huge success thanks to some heavy hitters appearing on the label like Troy Pierce, Marc Houle and Ryan Crosson. Here Jorge Savoretti returns for his second offering, teaming up with Qik who makes his debut on vinyl. On A1 we have "Kasper's Realm", which is a trip inside dark and dub, enriched continuously by complex percussion and vintage sounds, caught up by a fresh bassline, which scrambles on a elaborate groove by curving in and out of acid bleeps. A2 "Duna" is a track influenced by micro oscillations and deep techno fused by cyclic rhythms and a sweeping bassline. More bumping funky micro gear on the flip for dark sweaty locked on floors.(ESPERANZ04)HOUSE- 2/12/07-GE

NOUGHTS & CROSSES REMIXED

V/A *B BLOME/INK & NEEDLE* (TIC TAC TOE) 12  - 101613

RENE AMESZ

MY FAVOURITE BARBIE*INFINITIZE (25 HERTZ) 12  - 101626

Holland's undisputed king of thick, chunky house is at it again, this time on his own 25 Hertz label. 'My Favourite Barbie' takes elements of fidget house, glitch techno and electro house and manages to shape these influences into a floor-rocking monster that will appeal to anyone from a 20:20 Vision lover to a die-hard Trevor Lovey's fan. The remix by Infinitize is a mouthwatering take on the original that gets into some seriously messy sub bass and jacking Chi-town beats.(25H002)TECH HOUSE- 2/12/07-UK

HANNES TEICHMANN

JAGER07 *SASCHA FUNKE* (FESTPLATTEN) 12  - 101637

Hannes Teichmann released the original version of Jager some 5 years ago, before the minimal explosion came to be. I guess he figured it was time to get some updated versions of it. First up is Sascha Funke's remix, which is a clangy noisemaker of a remix, heavy on the percussion. On the flip, Dave DK brings a darker more electro-house element to the track. Dirty nasty basslines with some nice warm pads which were lifted from the original. Definitelty a bit more tasteful than most are used to with this genre. Finally, Hannes brings us his own dub of the cut. Very deep and quite jackin.(FEST34)MINIMAL HOUSE- 2/12/07-GE

SKAT

NIGHTLIFE (KARAT) 12  - 101641

Skat brings us his 4th EP for Karat records. Deep, dark and dirty is the name of the game with this heavily Chicago influenced ep. First up is "This is" which combines deep piano driven minimal house with some really great 909 work. All the while a dark sample of a guy saying "this is my house". After that is "Nitelife", a spooky little ditty with sharp but warm stabs to make up the rhythm. On the flip, things get a bit jazzier with "Droplets". The title is rather appropriate with its short drops of sound and very wet and jackin bassline. Finally, "Lugubre" makes things a tad ravey, but not too much. just a simple minimal house groove, with little ravey stabs here and there. All in all quite the solid record which would fit in nicely with guys like Ricardo Villalobos or Luciano's early morning sets.(KARAT29)MINIMAL HOUSE- 2/12/07-GE

ZENTEX

SAHA *COSMIC SANDWICH* (BLOOP) 12  - 101660

SUICIDE HOUSE (SYNDIKAAT) 12  - 101693

Here he comes with two dancefloor killers, the a-side with its gritty techno attack and a squelchy bass riff that explodes from the speakers while the flip is a more driving Coccoon-ish workout with piercing synths and razor-sharp percussion.(SNDKT006)TECHNO- 2/11/07-GE

PHUNK FOUNDATION

LET IT GO (ATTENTION) 12  - 101731

Excellent commercially-inclined electro house anthem from the Attention label, featuring an intensely hooky female vocal loop that reminds us of Abba meets Ace Of Base, over a thumping electro groove that would make Prydz proud!(ATT010)CLUB/NRG- 2/12/07-GE

JETBOY

BLESSURE (ELECTROCHOC) 12  - 100671

Jetboy aka John Dahlback unleashes the acid pressure on "Blessure", a truly twisted slice of music. It features an ungodly psycho-acid line that's deep, squelchy at times and constantly shifting through frequencies. Drums are of the retro banging 909 in nature and the effects thrown into the mix are as freaky as the acid! NASTY SHIT! "Are You Really Ok?" on the flip is another bad ass tune from Mr Dahlback, deeper more like the output on Dessous.(CHOC017)HOUSE- 2/05/07-FR

HOLD ON HOLD ON (SONAR KOLLEKTIV) 12  - 101530

On the flip "Get Loose" is a deeper affair with no less dancefloor energy than the A but with more locked on hypnotic synth grooves over the jacking beats.(FFS020)HOUSE- 2/08/07-FR

ERIC PRYDZ

I CANT EVEN REMEMBER (PRYDA) 12  - 99758

Here we have the brand new Eric 2 tracker, an epic electro house journey that starts with the looped vocal refrain 'I Can't Even Remember' and simple drum throb before morphing into a signature Prydz-style bassline that hits you like a sledgehammer! The track builds into an epic, bass-filled monster with some truly crazy filter and delay fx and a wicked final buildup- Hot!!!!! The flipside cut 'Frankfurt' is the perfect compliment to the a-side, building from a chord-stabbed intro as layers are gradually added and things take hold from there. BACK

Nouvelle Vague work their downtempo melancholic magic on "Frantz" giving it a sound that rivals Massive Attack's "Mezzanine" album. Phreek Plus One goes to town on "Achilles" giving it a slow italo twist that could have put it on the Risky Business soundtrack for the train scene. Last but not least is Lexx who delivers a slick afrobossa dub of "Bye Bye Papaye".(PERMVAC006)HOUSE- 2/08/07-GE

ALIENATION 3/3.7 (POUSSEZ) 12  - 101535

Fantastic collaboration between Dj Yellow & King Britt resulting is an emotional, soulful and beautifully deep techno meets house ep that at times sounds like the Orb, Carl Craig, Irresistable Force and Future Sound Of London. The sound design on the two cuts here is brilliant as is the fantastic programming resulting in two ass shaking, mind altering journeys into the netherworld.(PO14)MINIMAL HOUSE- 2/08/07-FR

NIELS DE VRIES

"Gotta Move It" is a straight up bleepy jacker with some nice vocal elements thrown on top. "Shake It Up" is the funky head nodder with it's Rhodes vibe and sub bass. A MATTER OF TIME *SEINAN* (ICON) IC  - 100656

Icon is back with another techy house monster. This time with UK newcomers Osaka Ultras who will some be gracing the Soma records as well. With three mixes of deep brooding techno the original bring out the dark tomes for those peak hour dancefloors. The mix to watch is from fellow Soma artist Alex Smoke with the depths of funk buried deep in his Herbert-esque mix. The mix from Seinan has that tweaky perlon vibe while the original pulls a little from the basic channel dub styles. A nice one for Icon to start 2007.(ICON031)HOUSE- 2/08/07-US

PSYCH / MAJORCA ROOTS (YO) 12  - 101250
